How long should I rent pump for?

Well I can't see into the future but I really hope that I don't have to EP (like last time) and the baby will latch on nicely. I plan to rent a pump at least for a month to help establish a supply and it'll be good to have some milk to freeze or have for when I or DH want to give an occasional bottle. Thing is, there are deals X amount for a month but cheaper each month if you rent for 3 months. It's a savings of $10/month

I can't wait and see how things go at the hospital with bf until I decide cause I want the pump here when I get home (I'm leaving on a weekend when the rental places are closed and don't want to risk being w/o a pump if I really need it).
Would you do a month to month with the hope of not needing it more than 1-2 months or just do the 3 months?

Also, for people who can bf but pump for the reasons I stated, how long do they typically pump for?

Re: How long should I rent pump for?

  • are you in the u.s.? you should be able to get a pump for free via your insurance company. you might want to check with them.

if not, how much is it rent? you might be better off buying one of the more inexpensive electric pumps (like a single electric).

  • I need a hospital grade bc last time I started on one at the hospital then came home to my expensive double electric and it didnt suction as well so I got mastitis.

My insurance sucks. They will only cover a manual pump which is like $10 anyway and it doesn't matter if I have a prescription.
