Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

18 days post MMC & still bleeding. Any Advice?

Sorry for everyones loss

I was 10 weeks due 10/5/14 when found out that I had a missed miscarriage on 3/14/14 (the baby stopped growing at 6W)...on 3/14/14 received the pills and started passing the baby on 3/15/14. It has been 18 days & I'm STILL BLEEDING!! It is physically and emotionally draining. The first week it was heavy (passing large tissue & clots), second week it was moderate to light (small clots), this past weekend it is currently moderate w/ cramping, today it's light.

Did anyone else miscarry for a long time?

My PCP & OB-GYN said it's normal & that a woman can bleed up to a month. But in the back of my mind I keep thinking that it's not normal. I've been getting my blood done weekly 3/21, I don't know the levels yet because I go for my follow up appt with the OB-GYN on 4/8 & I will find out my HCG levels & if I'm done passing. I look a HPT yesterday I did see a faint positive line, which means that all the tissue hasn't passed. I am afraid to get a D&C because of all the risk associated but I am soooo ready for this process to be done.

Any Advice?

  • I'm sorry for your loss. I've been bleeding off and on for 4 weeks. I've been getting weekly betas and my numbers are still kind of high. I was pregnant with twins and I'm relatively certain I've only passed one of them so far. I didn't use cytotec this time because I have a bad reaction to it, so it's just taking my body a while to work it out.

I don't remember exactly what my doctor said, I was pretty numb when he was talking, but essentially if he sees my number continually fall at a good rate he doesn't think it's too big of a deal. If I get to a point where I've stopped passing tissue and my numbers are still high then I get to schedule a D&C. Which, if you're afraid you really shouldn't be. Sure there are risks associated with them, but they're rare. There are plenty of risks associated with taking cytotec as well.

If you have any specific questions about the D&C feel free to ask, there are plenty of us here with experience. I'm so sorry you find yourself here.

  • So sorry for your loss. You will get a positive (faint) until you levels fall below the detection threshold on the test (usually about 50 to 100). It doesn't necessarily mean that all the tissue hasn't passed, just that your HCG hormones haven't completely depleted.
