Chew, Chew, Chew...

I tried this with J and he laughed his a$$ off at me!  Every time I try it, he laughs :-)

Any other suggestions?  His problem is he swallows to early and I am so afraid he will choke and I won't be able to help him.  I give him small bites right now but know eventually he will need bigger pieces to pick up.

Thanks!

  • Honest question but, if he hasn't choked, how do you know he's swallowing too early?  He might be chewing just enough for him.  Just give him a few pieces at a time to limit how much he can stuff in there :)

Also, you might find that bigger pieces are actually better.  The small ones might be so small that he doesn't think he needs to chew but if you gave him say, a spear of sweet potato, it clicks with them.

ETA: yeah that sentence made a LOT of sense - bigger pieces are bigger.  I need more sleep lol

My thoughts as well. DD will sometimes clearly have a hard time swallowing a big piece. But she does it and then reaches for more so I'm not too worried.

  • Agree with @elmoali‌ LO often does better with larger pieces.
