Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Storage containers for homemade baby food

Hello all. My daughter will be 6 months in a couple weeks and I really want to try making her baby food. I have seen so many different containers for freezing food- from ice trays to fancy trays. What do you use or recommend? TIA!

  • I freeze in covered ice cube trays then I pop them out and stick them into those big freezer bags. Label with the food and date and it's done.
  • I love OXO tot blocks so much more then ice cube trays.

  • Ice cube trays work great! I just freeze them and keep them in freezer bags. Can keep them for up to one month in the freezer.
  • I got old baby food jars from friends who feed jarred food.
  • For some reason my daughter loves my home made vegetable purees but doesn't touch the ones with fruit. So I buy the kinds with fruit at an organic supermarket and use the empty glass containers for the freshly cooked purees. I also freeze the glass containers. I was hesitant at first but other moms had good experiences with it and I also never had a problem (breaking etc)

I bought the beeba freezer tray and love it. It makes 2 oz portions and they pop right out. But they are on the expensive side. But they are BPA free and dishwasher safe.

The Beeba frozen portions fit perfectly in these for defrosting and travel

You can also freeze right in these containers and they are dishwasher safe.

I have a baby bullet and also use the tray it comes with but the frozen foods aren't as easy to get out. And our baby bullet just kinda shit the bed the other day.

Edit- even though our baby bullet shit the bed I wills till use the freezer tray and the containers.
  • I have baby fresh freezer tray that came with a lid. I didn't buy them brand new but got them second hand. They are in one ounce incriments and once they are frozen I pop each one into a freezer bag. The lid does allow for storage in the tray if I wanted to though.

The Munchkin ice cube trays that come with lids
  • I've found that the silicone trays are SO much easier to pop things out of then traditional hard plastic ice cube trays. I also use them when I preserve my garden herbs in olive oil as well.

  • I got the rubbermaid ice cube trays on amazon that have a lid. They're like $4 each, BPA free and dishwasher safe. Haven't used them yet but planning to make some baby food once we finish up the gerber 1st foods.

  • Mumi and Bubi trays are great! They pop out easily and don't get freezer burnt. I pop them into a 4 oz bell jar and heat them in our Dr Brown's bottle warmer. The 4 oz glass bell jars are also great for storage. Here is the link to the trays: https://www.amazon.com/Mumi-Bubi-Starter-Compact-Recipes/dp/B004A9ZF3Y

I have these trays as well and I love them.  I got them b/c they fit perfectly in my fridge and hold a lot more ounces than a single ice cube tray, plus have a cover.  I pop them out and put them into ziplocs after they freeze.  To send to day care I then use the OXO tot blocks, but I don't freeze in these as you would need way too many.
