Natural Birth

Just need to recenter myself....

Okay, so its been 10 years since my last baby, I am approaching the 40 week mark April 1st. I have not had any complaints, just a normal stress free pregnancy even with school, finals and moving. But OMG, seriously, why am I still pregnant. I don't think I have ever been so anxious before. I can't sew anymore diapers, clean or wash anymore laundry, walk up and down home depot or the grocery store, besides the random, unsolicited comments of how big I am from strangers has gotten old. I am sure I am not alone in feeling as though labor will never happen....I even asked my midwife yesterday what the Guinness book of records was for gestation. Plenty of 'coupling' time, walking, cleaning, scrubbing, stairs that lead to the bedroom and still nada. I think she is just way to comfy in there. There is not really a question or any concern, I just needed to sort out my overly anxious mind.....Thanks for the space to do so.

Re: Just need to recenter myself....

  • I felt like that with my second, both my babies were born at 40w3d, so not really anything to complain about, but you feel like a ticking time-bomb, like any minute...or not!  I totally understand.

I suggest two things.  First, do something for yourself that will be hard to do after baby is here, go see a movie, get a pedi, take a long, long, shower, etc.  Second, buy the yummiest cupcake you can find stick a candle on it and sing 'happy birthday', if baby doesn't show up to its party then, well, someone has to eat the cupcake ;) Seriously though it makes for a cute picture and DS was born less than 24 hours after we did this, guess he likes cake!  Good luck!

  • I am 40w3d today and the anticipation is killing me. I'm not uncomfortable but I can't wait for baby to get here.
  • It has been 10 years since my last, but this is baby #5 for me and my husband and I's first. (un) fortunately, school has started again for both of us, which could be a nice distraction 'if' perhaps it wasn't algebra and biology....we did go to the coast with his daughter to watch the sunset. I suppose I am putting a lot of pressure for the baby to come before she goes back to school on the 7th and before my mother comes on the 9th, not that I am not happy she is coming but the least amount of an audience the better. Been doing a lot of visualization and I had my DH check my cervix, I am soft and dialated some which gave me some calming hope, definitely have dropped as well. With my other babies I was never quite sure of my due date so I did not have any expectancy+ there was always another toddler around to keep my mind distracted, with this one I am sure of the due date, so I am watching the metephoric pot to boil. Grateful for all the advice, and would'nt you know its time to clean my house again, especially since the midwife is coming with the birthing pool tomorrow.
  • Yes, the cup cake is a great idea, I was already thinking of making a (need to use the overripe...) banana cake;)
