February 2014 Moms

Anyone else have a little bitty baby?

DS3 had his 2 month today and he's down in the 4th percentile!  He was 25th percentile at 2 weeks.  The doctor wasn't super worried yet, but wants me to bring him back every 2 weeks for weight checks.  He's happy, meets milestones, sleeps well, and has plenty of wet diapers.  Spits up a LOT.  Poops infrequently but large in volume :)

I know that obviously if the doctor isn't worried yet, I shouldn't be worried yet, but wanting to hear some experiences from others moms.  He's 2 lbs. lighter than DS1 was at this age, and FIVE lbs lighter than DS2 was!  Any other moms with shrimpy babies?

Re: Anyone else have a little bitty baby?

  • LO is definitely growing but it's slower than my older ones. Dr is not concerned though b/c it's steady. She's on her own curve and so far not deviating. Funny thing is, my oldest was in 90% for his first 2 years but then after 3, he slimmed down and now at 6 he's super skinny and 4%. But his height is still 70%. He's a string bean. I'm wondering what they will say at his check up in a few weeks.

  • I do.  He's in the 2nd percentile, but he's always been little because IUGR.
  • DS1 was always super small. He's 3 and still below the 5th percentile but he's otherwise fine. Try not too worry.
  • Like you saw in my other post, LO was losing weight at the beginning and she's still on the smaller side weight wise. She's in the 20th-ish percentile for weight overall, but she's tall so her height-for-weight is like, 3rd. The ped is happy, though, because her curve is going up, so I'm trying to chill out... as you can tell from my other post, not so well!

  • My DD was similar. She was normal at birth, didn't regain very quickly, and then was less than 5% for a long time. We had to do a lot of weight checks for a few months. She didn't double her birth weight until she was about 1. She's just a tiny girl. At 3 1/2 she's finally 30 lbs.

As long as they are gaining weight they should be fine. Someone has to be at either end of the curve. The whole range is normal. It's when they are off the chart completely that it's a problem.
