Friday we had a 5.1 earthquake and we are still getting tons of aftershocks. Now the news is saying that we are going to have "The Big One" and it's not a matter of "if", but "when" and it will have the potential to kill thousands. Hey! Thanks, news. Great way to start my Monday.
I know a few of you ladies have mentioned that you also live in Cali. Did you feel the earthquake on Friday or any of the aftershocks?
@golfergirl08 -I know you live closer to me
@adinashoshana - You live closer to where it happened, right? I have been thinking about you this weekend. Everything okay?
Probably not worthy if its own thread, but wanted to check in and see how you guys are. Should have done it sooner.
Re: California ... The Big One (NBR)
I remember my dad telling me that he was in the huge LA earthquake years and years ago and it scared him so much that he ran out of his house in his underwear and nothing else. Funny because my dad is a Marine and he is Front Line Infantry in combat. You'd think the reaction would have been different. Ha! And my Mom has (more than once) slept through earthquakes and woken up in the other side of the room. We used to have hardwood floors and her bed was on wheels, so the earthquake would rattle her around the room and she would wake up on the other side.
F this ish!
I lived in Ben Lomond for the Loma Prieta quake in 1989. While the quake was scary, it was the lack of services afterward. It took days for anyone from 'outside' to get to us because of the roads.
They say be prepared for 3 days. After that, we always had enough for us and guests for 2 weeks. Depending where you are, also take into account your environment. We always had enough gas for chainsaws, generators, cars, ect just in case because we lived in the redwoods.
Thankfully the San Andreas hasn't has anything major to use that level of preparedness for my parents.
The big quake over the weekend was the biggest one we've had in a while. And of course I was on the toilet when it happened. How embarrassing if I was found like that. My kids didn't notice the quakes.
We've had so many quakes and after shocks these last 2 weeks that I'm waiting for the BIG one to hit & for all hell to break loose. Just kidding !
@L12541 We do have a couple fault lines here in SD County. The most significant is the Rose Canyon fault which is still active, although it hasn't produced a quake in a very long time.

Interesting, thanks! Still sounds like it's not as much of a concern as major faults in other areas.
And the one on Easter a few years ago was crazy. My DD was crawling at the time and she looked up at me like WTF just happened??
Mom to Lily and Colin!
Edited: because worded silly
@MissDemeanor My Grandma did the same thing to me, but it was about bring in an airplane crash. As we were taking off. On the first airplane I'd ever been on. Thanks, Grandma. She is also the reason my mother is terrified to drive. Wtf is up with the olds? Well, at least mine.
