Midwife at the hospital?

Bringing a midwife to the hospital to assist in the delivery process. Does anyone have an insight that may help?

Re: Midwife at the hospital?

  • There are certified midwives that have rights to deliver (vaginal) births at hospitals in RI just like OBGYNs do... is that what you're talking about? Or are you bringing a midwife in as a support person (in which case you'd also be seen by the on-call OB)?

  • Sorry to interrupt on this thread --I've never heard of bringing in a midwife as a support person but that sounds great to me. Do you know of any midwives that do that do that at women and infant s?

  • You can bring anyone in as support people to the hospital, whether it be a mom, husband, doula or midwife. Why not try the Alternative Birthing Center through the hospital and have your midwife deliver your child?

We are thinking of switching over to the ABC room and having a midwife instead of an OB.
