  Where did you find your nanny? Through a website like sittercity? If so those types of sites offer a background check the nanny/babysitter pays for to get jobs. From memory it's like $35.

  I don't have any suggestions except to maybe try and find someone knows personally. My MIL is a doula and if anyone knew her personally they would never leave their children with her. She suffers from multiple mental health issues and is on multiple meds but would pass a background check with flying colors. Seeing it first hand really scared me.
