What to get a 4yo girl for her B'day?

We just got the invite for DS' little girlfriend's (seriously he loves this girl) B'day party.  I have no idea what little girls like.  I know she is a "girly" girl has lots of princess stuff and the like.

The past couple of years I have bought her art stuff (finger paints/sidewalk chalk) because I like to give something they can use their imagination with.

I don't really want to spend more than $20-30.

Ideas???  Thanks!!

  • What about a lego set? I've seen girly sets if that's what she likes, but it's not just another doll and it is something she can use her imagination for, too. I think you can get a set in your price range.

I've also gotten a magnetic dress up set for my niece by Melissa and doug. They are about 15 and they have several different sets on amazon.

  • At this age I'd get dress-up stuff or some kind of craft kit. We got a headband making kit from Target for a friend's 5 year old DD. She loved it! Last year we got her a book bag that she could color with markers and that was a hit too.

    I hate play doh

Dress up, Barbies, or art stuff are big for my DD.

  • I don't understand the play doh hate.  I will not buy it for other kids now after being on here and seeing how many people hate it, but DS loves it.  It keeps him occupied for a good 30 minutes at a time, which for him is like forever.

@mrscodemonkey, I looked online and my target says they have a headband kit, I think I will try to get her that and maybe something else small.

    Thanks for all the suggestions!

  • We went to a 4 year old birthday lat night. She loved: doc mcstuffins puzzles, princess dominoes, movies, princess pom poms, and leapfrog books. She didn't care for the girly nerf guns or coloring books.

There was a really good princess book she got though. It was about the princesses having adventures instead of like going to a ball or something (Belle fixing Beast's castle, Ariel helping a shark) it was really different and cute.

  • How can you hate play doh? It's the best! I second lego though, or dressing up stuff. My friend's little girl is obsessed with dressing up, and I know LO loves lego.

LOL NO!  I didn't even realize there were people out there that hated play dough.  All have loved it and their kids love it too!

  • I have a newly turned 4 y/o girl and some of the things she loves are:

    25 piece puzzles

    dress up clothes

    play doh

arts and crafts (paint, markers, coloring books)

You can find most of this stuff within your price range

  • I usually go the dollar section at Target, get a cute bag and fill it up!

Thanks everybody.  I ended up getting her a couple of Melissa & Doug things at Target.  I got a set of stamps and a set of big beads for making necklaces.  DS saw some Sofia the 1st pom-poms at the grocery store so we got her those too.  Hopefully she likes it all.

We have that bead set and DD likes to string the beads on pipe cleaners. Then we close it up and make bracelets.
