March 2014 Moms

Worst night ever!!!

She fed from 8pm-10:30pm anytime she would stop she would fuss. We would burp her and she would want to feed more. From 10:30-2 we changed diapers, burped, fed some more, cleaned up spit up, swaddled, unswaddled, rocked, walked, bounced, seriously everything all she would do is fuss and scream. Finally she passed out at 2am and slept till 6am. I cried a bunch and my poor husband who has to drive a few hours for work today stayed up and helped me all night. I have no idea what more we could have done or if this is normal. She isn't sick or have a fever. She is just now hitting two weeks and is ebf. God help me that tonight and the rest of the week is better my husband is gone all week.

  • There is a growth spurt around 2 weeks, so it was probably related to that! The beginning is tough, but it gets easier!

  • Levi did this right around 2 weeks and it was terrible. I'm so sorry :( he's been doing great this week though, so I'm sure good nights are in your future!!!
  • Sorry you had a rough night. Sounds like a growth spurt - hopefully she sleeps lots today to make up for it!

  • We had a pretty rough one too ! For some reason when we get ready for bed she isn't so last night she fought sleep until 12 . Was back up at 3 didn't fall back asleep until after 4 then was back up before 6. I think we need to up her ounces in her bottle . But I was dead tired this morning !! I'm used to her sleeping 3 hour stretches at night .

  • Dd did this most nights. It was awful. Not sure where you live but if it's warm out try to get her fresh air. It always knocked dd right out. Also you could try white noise. Could just be a growth spurt. Either way hope she calms down so you can get some rest! Being tired makes coping with that so much more difficult.
  • I'm sorry your night was so rough!  We've had a rough night the last two nights.  Ellie just won't sleep after about 9:00pm.  The most I'm getting at a time is an hour.  I'm so tired I just cried while I fed her this morning.  We're all feeding and changing and fussing and spitting up and feeding again and fussing.  We're dragging the swing into our bedroom tonight in hopes that we'll get a little sleep at some point since she wouldn't go down in her PNP.  I'm going to be keeping my fingers crossed for both of us!
  • Ugh...I feel your pain. Nothing seems to put DS to sleep. I did however recently download this app Sound Sleeper. It's just a collection of noises that help babies sleep. DS seems to fall asleep easier when I play the "womb" sound for him. Might be worth a try!

  • We did the swing swap as well on night three so far we have only had one successful night using it! I am hoping its a growth spurt..she is sleeping nicely now but I hope she doesn't sleep all day and stay up all night. We take walks daily with the dog and I have been using white noise as well...I almost started vacuuming at 1 am since that knocks her out and who knows I might resort to it tonight. Thank god I do have family near by and that I have a massage scheduled for today...honestly I would pay my massuse to just lay in the room with quiet for an hour and she wouldn't even have to do a thing!

I got that app too she has been using the hair dryer but we also tried the shh and the womb last night!
  • We've had a couple nights like this so far. I pretty much downed coffe and watched tv all night. After coming to terms with not sleeping at all, it got better. The next morning, I set DS1 up with breakfast and PBS cartoons and crashed for an hour and a half.

  • We have had a few nights like that. It is tough but normal. We asked our pediatrician and she said it is a growth spurt and not to worry.
  • I've gone back to swaddling her when she's drowsy and that seems to help get her to sleep, too. Might be worth a try. Anything is worth a try!

Yup, we're going through the same thing. There are a lot of growth spurts within the first 2 months. Once you seem to get a routine down, a growth spurt will come and screw it up. Not to add salt to your wound, but I don't think we started getting a good night's sleep until DS1 turned 10-11 months. It was right around the time he started cruising, which seemed to tire him out. But girls are more "advanced" with that stuff hopefully it will be sooner for you guys!

Story of my life. We're going througj another one i feel like. After a week of sleeping 3.5hours at a time, i got three hours total last night. Like 30min here and there.

  • Makes me feel better too, @Anneplusone‌.
Unfortunately I think this is normal. My LO did the same thing last night from 7:30 till about 10:30. Just fussed, cried, screamed... We tried everything. It was miserable. I even wondered aloud to DH if every baby did that or just ours (because ds did the same thing quite often). I just keep reminding myself that this is the worse part (at least I think it is) and it gets better.
