Nursery Chair Recommendations!

Well I think I've made a post for every piece of nursery furniture so this will hopefully be the last!

We went to some furniture stores today and of course everything was well out of budget... my favorite being a $700 special order. Stinky part is we have to pay half down to order and then the remaining balance isn't enough for any of their no interest financing plans!

Anyway anyone already buy a chair for the nursery or any STMs have one that they love? I'm looking at $300 or less. The ones on display at Target don't impress me and we do not have a BRU or BBB. I'm hesitant to order online without getting to sit in it.

I should also add I am plus sized and my DH is 6'3" so something larger would be nice.

Sometimes I don't know what I would do without this board!

Re: Nursery Chair Recommendations!

  • I got mine 3 years ago and love it, it has held up with daily use (it is in our living room).  It is a Dutailier glider.  I am linking bbb but you can find them else where.  Also I am plus sized (18/20) and fit in it nicely

Im plus size and hubs is 6'0 and super skinny. Honestly a friend gave us a glider and we are going to go with that and maybe find a stool to go with it. I'd suggest checking craigslist and other ads for a used one. I had hoped to go with a full on rocker/recliner but it just isn't in the budget with all the other big expenses.

Craigslist is usually a fail in my area... nothing ever good on there but I have been checking!

    Ikea!!

I love Ikea minus the fact it's about 350 miles away!

  • I ordered a plush glider with ottoman from hayneedle.com 3 years ago but it came with free shipping, looked like all the ones I had seen in stores and was like $399, not saying it would last 20 years but it will make it through all my kids and then some.

baby #3 arrived in September 2014...cannot get ticker to work no matter what I try!

  • I did a glider from target and it's been great! I esp liked the price compared to others I looked at.

  • We got a leather lazy boy rocker recliner off Craigslist for under $100- love it!

  • We got one from BRU, a glider with a footrest. If I had unlimited budget/space, I would get a recliner but it's a small room and the couple hundred we spent on that was plenty.

Do you have a big lots? I'm not sure if that's a regional thing but dh got a recliner there that was pretty nice. Ours broke in a move but it was nice while it lasted lol.

  • I didn't like the look of the usual gliders (the wood frame with the cushions), so we went looking for a rocking recliner. We were expecting everything to be in the $600-800 range or more, but we went to Raymour & Flanigan yesterday and scored! They had several pieces around $500, and we found this faux-leather rocking recliner on sale for only $349. Our budget was $600 so we were super happy with that. I know it's a little over your budget, but I think the extra is worth it for a piece that can transition out of the nursery someday.

  • @Damasked how long had to had the chair?  I really like the look of the Poang rocking chair and I was forgetting we can go north to Canada for Ikea which is still a 2 hour drive but closer than the almost 5 hour drive if we go to the one in Minneapolis.  I love the price of both the the Poang styles.  Just trying to decide if it's worth the trip... I wouldn't mind getting to an idea to get some shelving and othe things for the nursery anyway!

@ang2016 We've had it a little over two years now, and it's held up great. I would definitely recommend it!
I'd be willing to guess that you could also find some how-tos on making replacement cushions or cushion covers for the Poang chair on Pinterest if they didn't have a color/print you liked.

Oh I'm sure!  Pinterest has everything but just a neutral brown would work for me which they have.  Now I just need to decide if it's worth driving to an Ikea.  Shipping for the chair and footstool is $50 so I hate to spend that if I don't like it when it arrives.

I don't know if you have a Haverty's near you but that's where I bought my glider and I love it.  I'm excited to get it out of the attic and be reunited with it.
