GTKY: Best vacation ever!

So where's the best vacation spot you have ever been? I wanna hear it all, if it was balls to tha wall partying, or of course the beautiful scenery, relaxing. I've been pregnant for the last two years in a row, and I can't wait to parlay on a nice vaca once that time comes.

Mine was when H took me to Puerto Rico for 10 days. Day 1, we got engaged that night. Woah!!!! It was a wonderful surprise. From then on the party continued, if you can imagine. His uncle owns a bar in San Juan right by the port. We had non stop FREE alcohol. Insane! So the bars don't really open until 10ish, and close around 6 or 7 am. It's like the whole town came crawling out, and I loved it.

Then we went to this amazing rain forest called El Yunque. No words can describe how beautiful that piece of land was. Afterwards, we went to this beautiful clear beach called Luquillo beach.

The food was amazing, the people as well. The island is so small we actually got to drive from one end of the island to the next. There was so much more we did, but this could turn into a book. I can't wait for our next trip. Tell me, where are some amazing fun places to go? I need some new adventures. If you haven't been to PR, I suggest you go.

Re: GTKY: Best vacation ever!

  • It's a toss-up for me. DH and I went to Ecuador for 10 days in our second year of dating; it was an absolutely incredible trip, and a great "get to know you/deal-breaker or -maker" for a new-ish couple. We hiked and birdwatched and stayed in the countryside. We absolutely loved it, and made some friends for a lifetime.

More recently, we did Argentina for 10 days on our honeymoon. Also an incredible trip, but in different ways. It was maybe a little less of a cultural experience, as the places we went were pretty touristy, but for this 8-week pregnant lady, the creature comforts were great. Still amazing food, sightseeing, and tours. We loved it. So...those are my two faves :)

So amazing! I just love hearing about other Latin countries. I totally hear you on the toss up. I loveeedddddd our Cancun trip like no other.

I've ALWAYS wanted to do a cruise, but H just won't go. He has this fear of our ship sinking. Booooooo!!! That sounds like so much fun. I call them moving cities. Sigh, maybe one day we can go.

  • Hmmm, I love to travel and do it every chance I get so it is really impossible to one and only one trip.

Some favorites were: a week long bike tour I did of the Grand Tetons with yoga in the mornings; our 3-week honeymoon traveling around Italy especially starting the trip off in an apt. in Rome and getting to visit like a local; a two week trip to NZ and Australia including a glacier tour, volcanic area, rainforest, and even a rugby match where we ended up on TV; and a week long trip to St Croix...total lazy vacation just scuba diving in the morning and drinking and laying in the sun the rest of the day. I would love to be any of those places right now!

  • Here in the states, DH and I LOVE Napa/CA Wine country.

Oversees, we went to Budapest last year and I hope we can go back at some point! We were able to go to a few places on this trip and I LOVED Venice as well. Mainly drinking wine at the little canal bars/restaurants...probably the most picturesque place I've ever been, but going once you kind of see most everything there is to see/do in about 2 days since it's a small place.

  • Nothing too wild, just our honeymoon in Aruba. It was amazing and I hope to move there one day. We had such a good time, it was romantic and we have great memories. We drank in the sun, had awesome food, and walked all over the island. I will never forget it that's for sure!

It was way too long ago... Almost 5 years :( need some sunshine ASAP!

  • our honeymoon was Belize.  we went to Tikal and hiked the Mayan pyramids, went to a cave (ATM) that was pretty much the greatest experience I've had - 2 miles underground!  and spent almost a week on Ambergris Caye.

In August we went to France for 2 weeks.  We started in Paris and did all the typical things, then went to the Normandy beaches, took the train to Lyon for a few nights, then finished off the trip with Nice and Monaco  (btw, lots of topless beaches - Hollymallowes would have crushed her pearls to dust).  only two more years 'til our next adventure ;)

  • Two trips come to mind. Two totally different experiences.  The first was when I did a tour in Europe. I spent a few days in Austria (not nearly long enough) and it was the most beautiful and romantic place I have ever been in. I could spend weeks in Austria. I got lost walking around the countryside, had an amazing dinner in a beer garden with some locals I met and even went on a date clubbing with a cute bar tender at the hotel I was staying in! The second trip was a freaking crazy rager and I'm surprised no one died or went to jail. I was young, dumb and irresponsible. My friends and I went to the beach for a week and lost our damn minds. We spent the entire time partying day and night. We even ended up sleeping on the beach for two nights. It was crazy, not at all glamorous and if my lo ever does anything like I did I will handcuff myself to him for eternity but....It was really awesome experience.

  • Surfing in Costa Rica, riding an ATV around the beach and jungle back to hotel every day, good food, cheap beer, great tan!

  • We spent 2 weeks in Maui for our destination wedding, which was great. But the real fun started on our honeymoon to New Zealand/Australia. We did a lot of outdoorsy stuff..."blackwater rafting", hot spring spas, kayaking Milford Sound in New Zealand. Lots of wine tasting in both NZ and Australia. Plus, I'm a huge Lord of the Rings fan, so loved seeing where it was all filmed. I think my best trip to date. I could go on and on. The photo is of DH and I on our kayaking tour.
  • My FAVORITE topic. :) Yours sounds amazing. I have been to tropical locations, but only via cruise ship. So, I would love to fly into a place and just explore.

Our best was our Disney Cruise last October. It mixed cruising, which is my all time favorite way to travel, with Disney and was just all around amazing. Plus, it was our first 7 day cruise which made it even better because we had plenty of time to enjoy it. The food and service was great. The drinks were even better. DS loved the clubs and is still talking about how much fun he had. We made lots of friends beforehand in a Facebook group and had lots of really nice people to talk to. And it was Halloween, so we got to trick or treat on board, dress up in costumes, and I finally got to go to an adult Halloween party, which I have always wanted to do.

PLUS... I came home pregnant. So, win win!
I'm with you @zarkarella. My favorite topic too!!
  • @nicoletteb‌ It sounds like we had almost the same trip down under.

  • So hard to say...

I love my vacations to Denmark for the quiet beach and family time.

My trip to Egypt was probably the most interesting but not the most fancy.

    Greenland was amazingly beautiful :)

But London is still my favorite city for a good time!

    I can't pick one trip. Sorry :/

When DH and I were dating we went to Puerto Rico for two weeks. We rented a car, went surfing and traveled all over PR. It was great. We stayed in some small villages, snorkeled, biofluorescent  bays, hiking, etc.

Our honeymoon we wen to Italy and France for two weeks. We did Rome, Florence, Milan, Nice, Monaco and Marseille. I absolutely loved every second. We did more tourist, historic sight seeing in Italy and more lounging by the beach in South France. Lots of amazing food and wine. I love Europe.

Went to Tofino, BC and Whistler, BC a little over a year ago. Did zip lining, hiking, surfing in Tofino and then snowboarding in Whistler, dogsledding, rented snowmobiles, spas, etc. It was great.

My most recent adventure was driving across country from Oregon to DC. I went to Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park, the Tetons, Mount Rushmore, and Badlands National Park. I did a lot of hiking and just exploring the country side. It was gorgeous and I would like to go back and spend more time in the Glacier National Park/Tetons area.

We have a trip to San Miguel de Allende in Mexico coming up in October and we are taking our little dude with us :)

Amazing trips ladies…I want to go to New Zealand and Australia so badly. We are hoping to within the next year or two while my husband is doing some cancer research and not on call all the time.

  • We went on our babymoon to Cancun back in January and even though our hotel wasn't as nice and the food wasn't even CLOSE, I liked it better than our honeymoon in Jamaica. I guess at the honeymoon I couldn't really relax because I wanted everything to be perfect, and DH was still a little in shock that we were married and after 6 years of dating he had to use the word "wife" now. But Cancun was fantastic. We didn't stay long so I wouldn't miss too much work, but the short time we were there was fantastic. We've been on mission trips to Mexico several times and this was our first actual vacation there. We laid on the beach soaking up sun while our friends and family in Iowa battled the wind chills, we went to an ecological park called Xel Ha and snorkeled/zip lined into the water/explored the jungle, we saw an awesome Cabaret Burlesque show, and we even ventured away from the tourist section of the city into town to see about some nice souvenirs at the market (DH is fluent in Spanish or I'm sure we wouldn't have gone out that way). It was so nice to get away from our phones and Facebook and have time just the two of us exploring and relaxing. I wish we had stayed longer.

I love to travel and I can't wait to do more of it with him and eventually with our kiddos!

  • Saint Lucia for 7 days for our honeymoon. My ILs paid for everything! The flights were hellacious coming all the way from California, but we had the time of our lives.

  • @ashcross‌ Go again to the Tetons and Yellowstone with your baby. We went with DD before she turned two and it was so fun seeing it with her. She hung in there with all the driving too (8-10 hours a day), I can't wait to go again!

Wow! It sounds like you had some wild times in Austria! I think Salzburg is a beautiful city. Of course my trip was a bit more mellow than yours. I hate to admit it, but I loved the Sound of Music tour and the tour of Mozart's childhood home (I'm a big nerd). I'm dying to go back and visit Vienna!

  • It's a toss up between Paris, Rome and Barcelona.  All were fantastic in their own way but I gotta say the food in Paris was out of this world.  We had fun being day drunk in Rome.
