1st Trimester

Round ligament pain

I had my first Ultrasound yesterday at 9 wks 4 days and was so happy and positive. I had a mc last February and the worry of any pain or discomfort or lack of morning sickness scares me but I've learned to tone that down and relax. Anyways after the excitement of seeing the baby and it's heartbeat I went to bed last night and rolled over at 2am to a pain in my pelvis. I spoke to doc office and they said round ligament pain r cyst that will dissolve. No accompanying bleeding or anything. Anyone else experience so early and maybe have a lingering pain in the area that's full not sharp? Thought maybe gas or the glorious constipation on top of it all :)

Re: Round ligament pain

  • I had some last Friday, at 7 weeks. It freaked me out since it wasn't a normal cramp but pain concentrated in one area. When I described it to the nurse at my appointment on Tuesday she said it was most likely round ligament pain.

  • I am 9 weeks and I have been feeling this off and on for about 3 weeks. It freaked me out at first too but once I read a little bit about it and spoke with my doctor I feel much better. I'm wondering when it should go away, but at least now I know what it is.

  • With DS, I had a few early episodes of what my husband calls "lightning crotch." It was a sudden, shooting pain that feels like it's radiating through my pelvic bone. It started in the first tri occasionally and then after 20 weeks or so I had crazy round ligament pain shooting up the sides of my stomach that had me doubled over in pain. I'm sooo not looking forward to that again...

I'm glad you posted this.  I never noticed RLP with DS, but I feel like I've had it this time around.  I didn't think it would start so early.
