Inexpensive Toddler (19 mo) Activities?

Hello. I'm always looking to try new activities with my 19 mo twin boys, that will be fun but also help develop their fine motor skills. 

I'm looking for inexpensive activities that I could ideally try with items around the house. They love trying new activities, but my Pinterest list of ideas is slowly dwindling :)

    My DD is a sorter. She loves to organize and 'clean up' her toys and anything else she can get her hands on. I picked up a huge bag of pom poms at Michael's and she has been having a lot of fun with them... she basically does the same things as in this blog post, for a visual. We've also used them to make wreaths on spare paper plate edges and done some painting using them as blotting brushes as well. A lot of uses for pom poms. :-P

    I'm hoping others will chime in with some good ideas, I'm always on the lookout!

    My mom bought DS a $3 set of golf clubs at the dollar store. He has had the best time smacking golf balls around the house, throwing the balls, kicking the balls, etc. He's also having a blast trying to use the fork and spoon at meal time. You could incorporate scooping beans in a bowl/cup with the spoon or other smaller things. Like the PP my DS can sort his toys. Cars go in one basket, train pieces in another- he thinks picking up his room is a blast. If all else fails a an empy cardboard diaper box or pillow fort (sheet, couch throw pillows and coffee table) or tunnel provide endless hours of fun.

    Save (and clean) a Parmesan cheese container.  Trim different colored pipe cleaners to fit inside.  Teach toddler how to put pipe cleaners inside the little holes.  Great activity!  Now that we're learning colors we incorporate that too.

    I have cut a hole in the lid of a container and DS pushes his pom poms through the hole.  It takes some effort so it works on finger strength and finger isolation. I have cut a hole the size of the end of a popsicle stick and DS enjoys pushing those into the container. I have also seen people take a colonder and LO will push pipe cleaners through the holes to work on fine motor control.

    Tape a sheet of contact paper on the wall, sticky side out. Put large buttons on it. Have them take the buttons down and stick them back up. They do this in DD's music class and the kids all love it. Drop ping pong balls through a PVC pipe (or an empty paper towel roll)

    I subscribe to the Productive Parenting daily e-newsletter.  Great age-appropriate activities that use common items around the house, for the most part.

    An old wallet filled with old gift cards. Lo enjoys taking them out and putting them back in. We also cut out pictures of babies, cats, dogs, elmo, other things he is into and used packing tape to make more "cards" for the wallet. I echo parm container but we use popsicle sticks. LO also enjoys taking our car keys and trying to open all the doors in the house. It takes some fine motor skills getying those keys in the locks. Peeling a mandarin orange if we start it for him and then he pulls apart the pieces to eat

    My son loves stickers.  I bought a reusable sticker pad so he can peel off the stickers and put them on the sheets.  He's getting really good with wooden puzzles but really only showed interest recently.  I keep a basket of crayons, markers, coloring books, play-do, little toys, etc. and every evening he runs over to it and he dumps it out and plays with the things while I make dinner. He doesn't really play with the play-do, he just likes to take the lids off and look inside and put the lids back on.  I let him play with a little suitcase I don't use and he goes around packing up his toys in the house which keeps him busy for quite a while.  In general, I think some of the Pinterest ideas are amazing but his attention span is so short that he might not even be interested for more than a minute or two so it's not worth doing all the set up, buying the supplies, etc..
