June 2014 Moms

crazy, table for one.

this is my third baby and even though i saw the u/s and KNOW it is a girl...i cannot shake the feeling that this baby is a boy. that the potty shot was pure scrotum and there is a penis somewhere in there.

let me preface this by saying i have never been the mom who gets those *feelings* about the sex of the baby. this pregnancy is just identical to the one i had with my son and i cannot shake the "they have to be wrong" feeling. you know, now that the nursery is done, i have newbie clothes hanging in the closet, the monogrammed blankies are here...ugh.

i guess i'll see in june! but anyone else just in a state of bizarre, completely irrational disbelief?

I know what you mean...I have that feeling but I just think to myself "the professional told me girl, so it's a girl".

  • Same craziness going on here. They've told me I'm having a girl and I've seen the potty shot three times but still can't shake the feeling either. I'm having the complete opposite type of pregnancy and cravings than I did with DD#1. Just goes to show that only an ultrasound and birth can truly tell you.

  • I've been so nuts with this, that at the last ultrasound the tech wrote "still a girl" on the potty shot.
  • thanks, ladies! at least i'm in good company. haha.

  • I saw a very obvious boy ultrasound but I keep thinking maybe it was actually the umbilical cord and it's not a boy after all.  I feel a little crazy too!

  • I've been thinking about this. we have seen the potty shot four times and while each time baby hasn't exactly been cooperative all the techs (three different ones and the actual perinatologist) said it's obvious to them a boy it's never been that obvious to me!

    ETA: wrong post...

But no, I saw a penis, loud and clear, so unless my daughter has a tail, I'm pretty convinced that my Charlie is a Charles :)

  • I have frequently ultrasounds because of my "issues," and at most of the scans, I'm tempted to ask them to double check that it's "still" a girl.

Which is ridiculous because I had an amnio done.  I KNOW IT IS A GIRL.

Has nothing to do with any feeling I do or do not have.  I just keep forgetting that we really know.

So if you don't have super definitive evidence of the sex of the baby (ie the chromosomes and all), I can see questioning.  But I agree with @read247 - it's probably more a function of fearing not being ready or prepared properly versus some sixth sense trying to clue you in.

  • Honestly, no, I have never doubted what the tech told me with either kid. Idk. When even I can tell the u/s says boy or girl, I tend to believe it.

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

  • I have had SO many ultrasounds where my girls flash their parts, and yet I still find myself asking "are they still girls?" almost every time.  I would have been happy with either; just so much of this pregnancy has been surprises and unknowns that I think I want to feel sure of something.  It is normal :-).

  • I know the ultrasound tech is good at her job so I trust that he is a boy, but when she found the penis, I had no idea what we were looking at. Our shot is of random undefined body parts and a little stick sticking up. To my untrained eye it could be anything. But I trust the professional and she said she was 99.99 percent sure.
  • The first thing I did when Nola was born was look down to make sure she was actually a girl. I knew the whole time that she was and I was confident about it, but I still had to make sure! I get the same feelings this time, too, even though I'm very confident he's a boy!

  • Lol when we did the anatomy scan the US tech said oh he's a boy! Doctor did a quick look and said definitively a boy! Still in the back of my mind I wondered...had a 3D US yesterday and yep, still a boy so now I'm pretty certain and not worried about it anymore. I think it's just normal, and the techs are wrong at times but if you get multiple confirms you should know for sure :)
  • I made our ultrasound tech double check that baby is a boy at our last ultrasound even though we had DNA testing done at 9 weeks. She laughed and told me DNA doesn't lie! But for my peace of mind checked anyways, still a boy :)

  • i am always the one asking, "still a ____?" at any follow up u/s (i had multiple growth u/s with both of my other kids) i figured it can't hurt. lol. but this time around, i am just freaking myself out because my body is behaving exactly like it did while pregnant with my son and not my daughter, so i am flabbergasted that this is a girl. i had horrible spd with dek, which i have this time; the hair on my stomach got thicker, same this time; and i couldn't eat peppers without them repeating on my the entire night, same this time. just really bizarre stuff that didn't happen with my daughter's pregnancy that makes me wonder.

i KNOW the machine we saw the baby on were super detailed, so there isn't even a fuzzy shot to decipher. the tech was sure it was a girl, and i am confident she is correct (in my rational brain) but my irrational brain is hung up on the similarities between this pregnancy and my son's. plus, this baby is measuring ahead so i was not sent for my usual growth u/s at 26 wks...so i might not get the chance to say, "still a ____?" this time around!

like i said, crazy, table for one. hahahha.
