De-swaddlers check-in!

alright ladies, how's it going? we have all these other check-ins so why the hell not, lol.  anyone about to pull their hair out?  we've done 2 nights now of one arm out successfully, with just a couple wake-ups early in the night, usually w/in the first hour.  We did 2 naps today with both arms out but she only naps for 40 minutes, & I'm not sure when to take the big plunge & try that at night. How about you ladies?  How many nights in are you?  One arm out or two? How many wake-ups?

  • Same here as boots we went cold turkey. Had 3 nights of wake ups and it's all good now.

@BootsOrHearts‌ now by misery what do you mean? Woke up how many-ish times? I ask because when we first tried cold turkey she was waking up like every 30 seconds from flailing before I finally felt so bad for her & just reswaddled her.
  • Cold turkey. It's been like 5 nights and he woke up 3 times last night but only once the night before. I think part of the sleep disruption is that he's teething..

He woke up more often than normal - every 1.5-2 hours vs. 4-5 hours. Same thing, he was waking himself up. But after that he seemed fine and went back to sleeping his normal amount.

  • I tried guise. But the grunting he did that I thought was him trying to break out of the swaddle... He still did it. Without the swaddle. so maybe it's gas or something else. Either way, we are back to the swaddle tonight.

    I. Need. Sleep.

    So sorry. :(
  • We now have no swaddle and I'm a mother effin zombie. Ecerything just went over my head today at work. I'm sleeping on the floor in Los room tonight so I don't have to keep getting out of bed. Ds1 hated the swaddle from the get go, so this whole thing is new to me and I hate it.
  • I'm backtracking guise. :(. We tried 2 arms out last night & it sucked, she was grumpy a lot today from bad sleep, & even when I went back & tried just one arm out at a nap she started waking up crying.

So for tonight I went back to a full swaddle so she can sleep good, then I'm thinking we'll go back to the one arm out since that seemed not too bad, but I'm gonna do that for like 3 weeks before trying both arms out again. I want to give her reflex time to get better. I almost feel like it's cruel to just make her suffer through it, she can't help it, so we're just gonna take awhile.
  • I back tracked a little last night too. I couldn't take it! The two nights before we put him in a fleece sleep sack. He slept ok, not great, but not terrible. I thought it was too warm though, so last night we just put him to bed in his snap up pjs. BAD IDEA. At 4 am I put him back in his swaddle sleep sack, but with both arms out. It didn't really seem to help. He rolls over on his tummy and gets SO MAD. I'm hoping that in a few days he'll figure out to just roll back over and go back to sleep. I go back to work in a week.... ugghhhh

@Red_Dahlia, yeah I feel you.  I've been off work this week (just on a break) but I'm back again on Monday.  Last night didn't really go better, even swaddled, so now I'm starting to wonder if either I've just confused her so much that I've ruined it or maybe we're entering the 4 month wakeful thing. :(  Which makes me super sad cuz I was hoping we could avoid that.  I hope you had better luck last night!
  • We went cold turkey because Jack was waking up from fighting the swaddle. He does a 4 hour stretch then is up every 1.5-3 hours after. I'm exhausted but feel like we are so close!!

  • We deswaddled to the magic sleepsuit. We are on week two of the sleepsuit and last night DS2 slept a six hour stretch, a four hour stretch and finally a 1.5 hour stretch. It was amazing.

@NYMama1‌ do you think the sleep suit is worth it?
    Anyone else use it?
DS isn't rolling unto his tummy yet but he's breaking out of the swaddle and sometimes it looks like he could cover his face a little once he's loosened it up. Once he breaks free of the swaddle he usually just claws at his face and head. He has some eczema and cradle cap the I think is bothering him. Once that goes away I'm hoping he'll stop.
I tried to leave his arms out last night but he was up every 30 minutes and I caved. This shit is hard!!!

Question about the magic sleep suit too!! It says not to use it once they are rolling over in the suit. LO is constantly rolling now, but is the suit like heavy or something to make him not roll as easily?? I obviously don't want to spend $30 on it if I can't use it, but I'm at my wits end with waking up every hour. It just wasn't that clear in the description, and I'm confused lol.

  • @ltpugs bahahahahaha! That's actually kind of what I was picturing would happen!
  • bah. Another rough night. He goes down so easy, but rolls onto his tummy and FREAKS. Sleep positioners are a no-no, CIO is a no-no... Hopefully he'll learn to flip back over soon. I so tired.

  • On Thursday night we transitioned him to his crib and he slept 7.5 hours fully swaddled. So Friday night we tried one arm out and he slept 6 hours then 2.5 hours. Last night we did one arm out again and he woke after 5 hours and almost had the other arm out. So I left both arms out with the swaddle still around his body after I fed him. He slept for an hour before freaking out and was upset for the next 2 hours. I finally swaddled him and put him in the mamaroo. This is gonna be rough.

Yeah when we tried the 2 arms out it didn't go well either. I think we're gonna stick with leaving one arm out (the one she breaks out most often) for awhile.
  • The worst part for us is I think we are in the 4MW. Last night, Jack was up at 10,12,1,2,3 and for the day at 6. I feel like a zombie

  • J has been doing great without the swaddle at night but struggles with naps. I fought all day to get him to nap without the swaddle (which he did eventually). Went to see a movie with a girlfriend once DH got home from work, and J is napping swaddled! I wanted to punch DH in the face.
