Tooth pain & bleeding gums?!

So, I am only ten weeks with my first child and I'm having some terrible tooth pain! I thought maybe since I missed my last cleaning last year, I needed one. So I went ahead and went and they saw no cavities or anything but told me that your gums could swell! And you could get pregnancy gingivitis? I just want this pain to go away it feels like it's striking a nerve. Anyone have any home remedies or anything they've tried ? It would be greatly appreciated!! :)

  • I am a dental hygienist, and it is true with all the extra hormones your gums are going to be more sensitive. You should be brushing 2x a day make sure to get the bristles of the toothbrush under your gums and as always flossing 1x a day. You gums will probably be sore and bleed, that is a sign of infection, but the infection will go away after about a week of daily flossing. You definanlty want to avoid getting periodontitis (look it up) it is known to cause premature labor and low birth weight babies. If you can swing it I would suggest getting an electric toothbrush, like a sonic care they are worth every penny!

  • Bleeding or even swollen gums are pretty normal. Talk to your doctor about taking a calcium supplement or just adding more calcium in to your diet. I

This is pretty common. I personally experienced it with my first pregnancy. @JKBMA2014 is right, good advise

  • I have an electric tooth brush it works wonders!! I saw a different dentist today he looked at my tooth and said I could possibly have a "failed filling" but cold and hot doesn't bother me. Odd. But then told me he couldn't do anything for me without my obgyns approval. Obviously he wasn't sure what to do which kills me. I waited two hours for nothing! So now I have to throb in pain till Tuesday! Tylenol isn't taking away the pain nothing is.
  • Me too. Lasted for a week. Some bleeding gums though. Pretty painful to chew.
