Feeling down

Anyone else feeling kinda down? I know I should be extremely happy about our daughter being born but just knowin it could be today or 2 weeks from now if she is late is just killing me. The anticipation is literally wearing me down mentally! I know I need to just enjoy these last days before everything changes but its so hard when you just want that baby in your arms!!! I
Guess it doesn't help that I'm not working, have no plans during the day, and hubby is in training(army), and the weather has been gross. How do you ladies deal with these feelings? What keeps you occupied and positive?

Re: Feeling down

  • Loading the player...
  • A whole lot of Netflix and ice cream. I'm in a similar boat (Not working, no plans, SO works a lot, still cold here), and honestly, it just really sucks sometimes. The things that usually make me feel the best are usually constructive; organizing some things, buying the last of the baby stuff, crafting a little, spending extra time with the fur babies. Just things that keep me occupied and make me feel like I'm not just sitting around the house all day doing nothing.

  • Omg I'm so glad I'm not alone. I've been having a rough week. I seem to do fairly well on the days I work, but with idle time I just get real messed up in the head. I can't stand the fact that I have no clue when she's coming. If I had a date, I'd be doing much better for sure.
  • I, too, feel like I'm just sitting around waiting for the baby to come. Thankfully, my DH is home right now (he's starting a new job on Monday), so we keep each other company, but when he isn't here I get so bored. I've cleaned and organized this house top to bottom more times than I can count. I usually crochet to keep myself occupied, but I have to limit using my hands now due to De Quervain's Tendinosis (talk about horrible pain...) which makes it nearly impossible for me to grip my hook and yarn, so I haven't been able to work on important projects, and that makes me feel really bad because I have people waiting for orders but they're having to wait. I am baking almost every day, so DH and I are enjoying lots of sweets.  :)

  • This is totally me today!!! Some days I feel very patient about her coming whenever she is ready and other days I am just bummed out and impatient and just want her to be here already!! Not having anything to do is definitely making it worse. I actually have plenty I could do to get ready for her but cannot find the motivation. I'm hoping tomorrow is better. And I'm also hoping this little girl makes an appearance soon.
Hope you get some relief soon too!
  • Ya I'm good when DH is home and we can run around getting stuff done or go on some last date nights. But when he's on shift (fire fighter) I get to feeling that way sometimes. Keeping busy really does help. I've spent a lot of time organizing things in LO's drawers and closet. And watched a few too many marathons haha! Ready to have him here in my arms though.

  • Definitely. For me it's the drain of all my physical symptoms- mostly the contractions. I'm still on modified bedrest so that makes staying busy harder. I find that planning little outings each day really helps. I even schedule them on my calendar and I'm planning things out all the way through my EDD so I have plenty to look forward to. Sometimes it's lunch with a friend, getting coffee/snack from my favorite coffee place (artisan toast with nutella always cheers me up!) or a small shopping trip.

I also find that when I focus too much on possible labor symptoms (start timing contractions, check vaginal discharge, etc) it makes everything worse so I try to focus on the fact that when the time comes I'll "know" just like I did last time.

I'm very excited to be 36 weeks next week as I think I'll start doing some gentle yoga as well. Yoga and meditation help me focus on staying in the present which is hard, but important as well! Good luck!

If I ate ice cream every time I felt like it, I would be eating it for breakfast lunch and dinner! HA! Not a safe thing for this lady!!! My husband wanted to get a puppy but of course I said not good timing bc he is gone so much and with a newborn. I think I might be crazy... But I kinda wish I had that puppy now to keep me company

I wish I could go shopping or to lunch every week!!! Since I'm not working we only have my husbands income so kinda tight financially. Otherwise I would so just buy stuff to spoil our daughter!!!! And maybe some new make up and shoes for myself. ;)
  • I'm in the same boat, 3 days from my EDD but I have a feeling I will go well past that. Would make the waiting so much easier if I knew when things would get started. I've been doing a lot of baking (froze a batch of cookies yesterday for future use) & cleaning the house. I also bought a couple new books to read about taking care of babies & breast feeding, so those are helping the time pass as well. Spending time with the fur babies too, they been so needy lately!
  • I am the same way. I work from home as a freelance writer while hubster goes off to his office. I've finished all of my projects for work after weaning off of them for the past two months and now I'm sitting, twiddling my thumbs. It's definitely important for me to keep busy and have at least three social outings a week, even if one is just going to DH's office for lunch. I also make a list on Sunday of things I want to accomplish during the week, which helps me look forward to projects in lieu of focusing on my upcoming due date.

    This upcoming week's projects include:
    1. Finishing my third quilt for baby
    2. Making 3 batches of cookie dough to freeze (I have the BEST chocolate chip cookie recipe that we always keep in our fridge so we can have homemade cookies on a whim. Hit me up if you'd like the recipe!)
    3. Dusting all my floorboards
    4. Organizing my pantry
    5. Watching Season 2 of Friday Night Lights :-)

The social outings are yet TBD...feeling too sorry for myself right now as hubster has been gone for the last six hours helping friends move. Yeah, that's how pathetic I am -- he's out, hauling heavy stuff in 37 degree/rainy weather and I'm frustrated because I'm here alone. Pregnancy...I tell ya.

I need to make a list that's a great idea and I would LOVE the recipe :)
  • @khammond3 List making is the freaking best because when you get something done you get to cross it off. Having that feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day makes me feel really good and proud, even if that list has simple tasks like "Take Jas to work" or "Make dinner." At the end of the day, the "crossed-off-list" feeling is FAR better and more enjoyable than the "WHY ISN'T MY BABY HERE YET?!?" feeling.

And I wish it were my recipe, but I found it on Epicurious. Here is the link:

It calls to make them 4 1/2 inches, but we don't make them that big. I bake them for 11 minutes. They don't save very well...maybe two days...so we usually only make a dozen at a time. It's awesome to have fresh baked cookies whenever we want though!

  • I'm in the same boat now that I'm done working as of yesterday. I stopped working at my due date with my son and he was 5 days late so I've had some experience with the sitting around and knew ahead to plan stuff for next week. I already spoke to all my stay at home mom friends who are not working next wk and made plans with someone for each day. Going to take ds for a play date, headed to walk the mall with another friend, getting a pedi, and cleaning lady comes Thursday. It felt good to put something on the calendar each day that was fun so I have things to look forward to if this baby is as stubborn as ds was.

YES! I do this every time. I also have to break off part of the cookie and let it sit in my glass of milk so I have a delicious morsel of milk-soaked cookie to eat at the end. My husband thinks I'm crazy.

  • I try to keep a to due list but the to do list also stresses me out like I need to get it done before lo arrives. I really just enjoy resting. Walking really helps my mood and energy I walk around the block we live in the pines so its really pretty and the road has slight up and downs. It really helps my mood and could help get baby to come. But I take it easy with the walking cause I really want an April baby but come 4.1.14 its on! Due 4.6.14!

  • With my first it was a waiting game. Now ghost it is my third I am prepared emotionally but still have a ton to do!!! I guess that is a good side of two busy kids forcing mg to procrastinate the baby prepping! Lol

  • I'm not due until 4/20 which seems to be the back of the pack. I have this terrible nightmare that I'll be the past one delivered on here and no one will be around to "like" her birth post - which in the grand scheme of things doesn't matter but you know hormones. I have been trying to change my attitude about the waiting process and enjoy the last few weeks with DH. We just had a date to sushi and now I'm bumping from the tub so I guess life could get worse :)
  • ^^same for me. Due the 26th and she is measuring small so could go past that, and I feel like everyone will already have their babies. :( I'm still working and it totally sucks, but I have anxiety (probably brought on by bumping too much) that I could go into labor any minute and yet I still have 4 weeks left.

  • @Kencran‌ I'm due 4/6 too but was really hoping for a March baby, haha. But it is looking like that isn't gonna happen- what a stinker this LO is! ;)
  • I agree with trying to stay busy, and I know it's hard.  H and I are both home, just waiting.   We try to come up with at least one thing to do every day, even if it's only make a quick trip to the store for milk or eggs.  It just gives us something to "look forward to."   Otherwise, we're both taking lots of naps, the house is cleaner than it's ever been, and the cat is getting lots of attention :-)
