My little ray of sunshine joined the world at 9:38 on March 26, 2014. She weighs 7 lbs 0.8 oz, and is 19.75" long.
I'll try to keep the rest of this fairly short.
On Tuesday I had my 39 week appt scheduled for 1 in the afternoon, but I had felt some cramping and a lot more blood than I was comfortable with, so I called my doctor and he wanted to do a NST immediately. Got to the hospital at 11:30am and stayed until 3. Wasn't dilated very much, so they told me they would reschedule my weekly appointment for Thursday.
I went home, and chilled out with my grandma, aunt, and cousins, and ended up feeling more and more cramps as the night went on; I slept a lot, and then left my grandma' say about 9pm. By the time I got home, I knew I was contracting. They were ten minutes apart, and lasted what felt like an eternity. (In reality that was only a minute or so each.)
I decided to wait it out a bit, and see if I could get some sleep and hoped they would progress, which they did. VERY quickly. By 10:30 they were about 6 minutes apart, and by midnight they were 3-5 minutes apart. MH had to beg me to call the hospital to let them know we would be on our way in a minute or two, since I thought I could stick it out longer at home.
When we got to the hospital, I was still at 3-4 minutes apart, and they took MH and I down to the birthing center very quickly. Lots of questions and tears later, my med-free wishes flew out the window and it consented to some Stadol (sp?) and eventually an epidural. What a drug, my friends. My doctor walked in once it had kicked in, and I thought he was my BIL until he started talking!
They checked, and told me I was at 9cm, almost ready to push, but then realized they'd made a mistake and I was only 7, but didn't tell me. They told my mother, who made the call not to freak me out or frustrate me by telling me that until after the birth. I slept for quite a while, until about 8:30, and the epidural had worn off enough that I could wiggle all my toes and move my right leg, but the left one was still entirely numb, which I thought was hysterically funny at the time.
Pushed for about an hour, although it felt like ten minutes, and out she popped! DH said I had been very calm and quiet up to that point; the only noise I made was my breathing when I had to push. However, I started practically screaming with joy once she was out. DH says he was so mesmerized by Mia and my reaction to finally having her out that he didn't cut all the way through the umbilical cord the first time and had to cut almost three times to get all the way through!
2nd degree tear, and lots of swelling, but my little girl is worth every bit of it. She's a very content child so far, who has to be woken up for feedings, and only really cries when she's getting her diaper changed.
