Is it ok to get a massage?

I'm a few days away from having the baby and my mid back is killing me. I thought there was something bad about getting a massage during pregnancy but can't remember what. I definitely don't want it to risk putting me into labor earlier. Is it too late in the pregnancy to get one?

Re: Is it ok to get a massage?

  • Unless you're high risk and your doctor has a reason for you not to get one, you should be fine! They actually have special maternity massage packages at alot of places. And they can be inductive if certain pressure points are massaged, so if you're ready to get the ball rolling it's a good thing to consider as well (not guaranteed to work but definitely worth a shot).  Massage is just not recommended in the first trimester.

  • I've had a few massages over the last 9mos with no issues and it has helped soooo much. I highly recommend a nice 80min prenatal rub down.
  • I got massages all throughout my pregnancy. I was scheduled to get one right before my due date but canceled just because I felt huge and I didn't want to lay on my side for an hour which can be uncomfortable if you can't get into the quite right position. I rescheduled for two weeks pp and it was lovely!! Was able to lay on my tummy ahhhh I pretty much passed out!
  • Like PP's said, you just have to make sure it's a prenatal massage and you'll be fine. At least where I live, a massage therapist has to have a specific license to practice prenatal massage so they'll know what they're doing.
