PIP- DS's new look post-hospital stay

So I haven't been contributing much the past few months and this is why...

After 3 months of battling severe reflux, we ended up at our children's hospital last week. DS had been gradually eating less and less, refusing bottles, and finally stopped eating enough to sustain himself, despite my around the clock efforts to get him to eat. I literally was calling off work to stay home to try to feed him because he wouldn't eat for anyone but me. We were admitted, he got IV fluids, then had an NG tube placed. They have run all kinds of tests and can't find anything else wrong besides reflux. There have been cases of babies developing major feeding aversions from reflux alone, so he isn't alone.

We are working with a pediatric feeding psychologist and our GI team to continue to get him eating more from bottles. We offer bottles first then whatever he doesn't take goes in the NG tube. After a week of hell on earth, he is finally doing better! We are hoping he can get the tube out in a few months.

Of course the story is much longer but that's the shortest version I could come up with. I'm guessing I still won't be bumping too much while we are trying to get him better but I've been here since my BFP so I'm not leaving!

Thanks for reading. And here's the pic of my sweet boy rocking his tube. :)

  • Aw :( I'm sorry you're both going through this, it sounds awful and so scary. I'm glad the tests all came back okay. I hope things improve from here. Lincoln is a trooper and I'm glad he's still smiling. Hugs to you both.

  • So sorry for the roller coaster ride! I'm glad thing are looking up for your little cutie!

  • What a cutie!! Glad things are looking up for you guys!
  • Thank you all for your encouraging words! It means a lot!

He had a lot of vomiting overnight when he first got the tube (he gets a slow drip of formula via pump overnight) so sleeping is really hard... I'm wide awake right now (2am). Boo. Every time I hear a sound I run to him hoping he's not throwing up! He hasn't had any of those episodes in several days though so I need to chill. But you know how a mommy's brain works... maybe my bump time will be MOTN until I can stop worrying so much! haha

I'm sure he just needed some time to get used to it! I would think it would be pretty weird for him. Just some hope for you though, when my nephew started the all night slow drip he started sleeping 12 hours straight!
@Snowboarderbritt you must be psychic. lol He started doing this in the hospital!! Well, Besides the throwing up episodes. Now that we stopped that, he sleeps around 12 hours straight! One positive aspect of the tube I guess? :) He also wouldn't sleep in his crib until he was forced to be in the hospital crib for four days. Now he's a crib sleeper and I was able to put the RNP away! Gotta look on the bright side!

Wow I am so glad he's doing better now! Keep us posted on your journey, hope that tube comes out sooner than later. I know this is random but I actually saw a fb group for moms of babies with feeding tubes- might be a great resource to you. He is so sweet, hopefully things continue on the upswing for you all!
