2013 Highlander and Britax?

Hi Everyone!   I am wondering if any of you drive a Toyota Highlander and if so, where did you put your RF carseat?  The center seat is a bit small and wonky, I am not sure if the base would fit.

  • Check your car manual. Some cars have a better install in either outbound seats. More so if your center seat is narrow or has a hump. It can screw with the angles. You also said "base". Is your almost 2 year old still in an infant seat??

No, of course not.  I mean the actual bottom of the car seat that looks like a base.

Ok, I was just making sure. You had me all concerned for a second. :P However, check with your manual. I know people like to drill it into peoples head that the center is best, but it's not. The best place for the seat to go is where you can install and use it correctly 100% of the time. Plus many cars have funky center seats that do not allow for a proper install.

:)  Thank you! I am totally one of those people who believed center is best and was feeling nervous about installing it elsewhere, and the Highlander is one of those with a funky middle seat, so I think we are going to have to go outboard.

I'm glad I could help! My last car could only do outboard installs as well. It had a hump in the center.

We were able to get a decent seatbelt installation of our Britax Roundabout in the center back of our (older model) Highlander, BUT the seat majorly obstructed both side seatbelt buckles, which was a problem since we have an older child who needs to sit back there, so we ended up moving the car seat to a windowseat and using the car's lower anchors. If we didn't have another child to accommodate, I would have stuck with the center seat installation. It's clearly safer IF you can get a good fit there.
  • We have a rear facing car seat behind the driver.  My son's FF seat is behind the passenger.
  • We have both seats on the outside. That middle seat in the Highlander is just so narrow and rickety.

  • We have a 2013 Highlander and have our RF Britax (Boulevard) in one of the outside seats. We just couldn't make the small middle seat secure enough to feel comfortable.
