Adjusting older kids bedtimes

Quick question about bedtimes. DD currently goes to sleep at 7:45. On the nose. She is in the bath and then zones out as soon as she is in bed. We have tried to push it later. Seriously, last year we missed all the fun night time stuff at disney. No fireworks, etc.
She tells us she needs to go to bed, she whines, she will just lay down and sleep. She will be 6 soon. We are headed to disney again and determined to keep her up a bit later. With summer approaching it would be nice to be able to have some later nights too.
We have tried 10 minutes at a time, doesn't seem to work. She wakes about 7. She will not sleep later. I thought at this age she would be okay with just 10 hours a night once in awhile lol! Any advice or should we just be happy she gets a lot of sleep?

Re: Adjusting older kids bedtimes

  • My older girls are 6 & 8.  They sleep 11-12 hours a night.  Luckily they sleep in but your DD sounds like my youngest.  IF she sleeps until 7, we are doing good.  She is just a morning person and is asking to go to bed at night.

  • I am tempted to just keep her up against her will the night before disney lol! I booked the fantasmic dessert package, she needs to stay awake until 9 lol! She is the kid who will walk up to her nana at a family dinner and say, okay that was fun, I need to leave now to go home for bed at 6:30! No matter how much fun she is having or how many kids are running around. Not the worse problem to have lol!
