I just called to schedule my first prenatal visit, and I mentioned that I had been O'ing fairly late in my cycles (think... 40 day cycles). They want me to come in tonight for Quant. Level blood test, then go back in 48 hours for a second to compare the results for dating purposes. When my dates were off with my second, they just did a dating ultrasound, but they said that they don't like to do that now unless there is spotting, because the insurance doesn't like to pick up the cost of the US. I thought your levels could vary so greatly, can they really narrow the dates down that well from a blood draw? I'm guessing from my charts that I'm about a week behind what my LMP puts me - more like four weeks instead of five. I'm not too worried as I'm sure they'll explain more after the testing... just wondering if anyone knew much about this blood test?
Re: Quant Levels Question
"The hCG levels should not be used to date a pregnancy since these numbers can vary so widely." (American Pregnancy Association website). Am I going to be paying for a blood test now, that is pretty much pointless? hmmm

The levels are so broad I don't know how they could possibly use that...
On the bright side if my numbers are/aren't sky-high I can probably rule out/verify twins, right?
After arriving at the office at noon the doctor finally spoke to me (for five minutes) at TWO PM; and ended up ordering an ultrasound in week and a half anyway. Crazy. Oh well, at least now I know everything looks good so far.
