I have not heard the song, but I generally dislike selfies. It's one thing if they are for a purpose (ie HDBD) or if they are commemorating something (ie, I've taken selfies of H and I on vacation when there's no one to ask to take a pic for us).
But random..."Look at me in my car!" or "OMG I just have to post this random bathroom selfie!" Then no...I can't stand them.
I heard that song today for the first time. I couldn't even listen to the whole thing. Horrendous. I only take selfies on Wednesday, and sometimes with my kids.
Does it really count as a selfie if there are other people in the picture? I vote no....same for pets because I have a ridiculous number of pictures with the cat.
I'm not a fan of any selfies, but the WORST offender is the selfie posted with any variation of the captain "Ugh, feeling ugly today" or "I forgot to wear makeup :-(" SO MUCH AW!
I don't see the point. It's just awkward. "I look so good today that I think everyone needs to take a moment to appreciate it. But they can't see me...what to do, what to do.... AHA! Take an awkward picture of myself either smiling ginormously or making a pouty face!" Yyyyyeah. No.
The only selfies I've taken are while pregnant and while shopping for my wedding, and none of those are on FB. I have been in other people's selfies, so I guess that's kind of like taking one?
I take a thousand pictures of M, and once in a while I remember that there should be some photographic evidence that I was in her life, and that usually results in a selfie (with kid). Other than that, and HDBD, I don't really take selfies.
I know a few people IRL that totally rely on the validation of internet strangers for *everything*. 6-8 selfies a day, 2-4 pics per post. Clearly self esteem issues at play.
The humble-brag/validation is super transparent too.
When I hear "selfie" I think of someone taking a solo pic of themselves.
If someone else is in the photo then I my opinion is it is jut a photo, there just happened to be no one around to take it. Yes, yes, technically, the subject took the photo him/herself, but i still reserve selfie for the classic "duck face in a skimpy outfit in a random bathroom/car/bedroom" type photo.
If something makes someone feel good and assists with some need they have, I don't care. It's not for me to judge or have an opinion about. And if someone is taking a selfie because they feel confident that day, kudos to them. A lot of young women spend a period of life feeling insecure before reaching a point of self-acceptance in which they go trough a stage of some form of prideful displays, and that's fine with me. The need to judge others for having excess pride or sense of self isn't something I'm into. Women have been taught to attack other women for a long time, to criticize their appearance if they don't try and their vanity if they do. It doesn't benefit anyone.
I think it's all about how you present yourself. If you take a picture because you're feeling beautiful and confident I think it shows. If you take a picture of yourself in a bra with your lips poking out like some kind of living blow up doll.. well, you know what you look like and you know exactly what you're presenting to the world. I don't feel guilty for judging something that was posted specifically for that purpose. Men may find that vapid over sexualized image of a woman attractive, but I don't. There's a difference between being classy and being trashy.

If you take a picture of your dog you can't call it Fluffy's selfie. Fluffy didn't take a picture of himself, therefore NOT a selfie...
