Curious about eye contact.

If milestone type questions annoy you, please look away! You'd think as a STM I'd remember these things.

When you hold your babe do they look around a lot all over the place, or mostly gaze into your eyes?

Re: Curious about eye contact.

  • 9 weeks here- he used to hold my gaze forever- now I can barely get him to look at my face. He just wants to look everywhere else
  • Loading the player...
  • 6.5 weeks- occasional direct eye contact. Mostly looking everywhere else.

  • 5w3d and mine does a little of both. I love it when she makes eye contact-makes my heart smile!!
  • Almost 10 weeks and he does both.  If he does make eye contact, he'll hold it, but a lot of the time, he's looking at other things.
  • Almost 9 weeks. Sporadic contact, lots of looking elsewhere, checked with doctor today and she said totally normal for this age.

    DD2 - Charlotte Avery - 1/27/14

  • My baby sometimes looks directly at me, sometimes looks at random spots on the ceiling and if there is a bright light around... that is where his eye contact is, lol. 10 weeks :)

  • 7 weeks and LO does both. Usually when she is especially alert and in a good mood she will hold eye contact and interact for awhile, but she looks at her surroundings quite a bit too.
  • @Misdemeanor I actually love hijacking and I've never noticed how often he blinks but I will pay attention. Now that I'm thinking about it I've never seen him blink. Which probably isn't true. I'll be back.

So far nearly all his smile's have been for the ceiling fan which is his favorite thing to gaze at.
What is up with babies and ceiling fans? I swear, my LO is OBSESSED with the ceiling fan
  • 1. DD seems like she never blinks. I may or may not have staring contests with her... she always wins.
    2. she's 5 weeks and seems to make eye contact really well but it seems like that's mainly with me and when I'm talking to her while she's eating.
    3. @TyrannosaurusLex‌ I was going to say the same thing! way too early to tell with ASD. :)
