3rd Trimester

Movement has slowed!!

Sunday I will be 28 weeks, and starting my third trimester. Up until a few days ago, my little man has been a little wiglet! Non-stop movement!! And I love it! But the past couple of days, I have been having cramping feelings in my sides like a stretching feeling, which I have chalked up to round ligament pain, but my little man, while he still moves, doesn't move nearly as much!! It worries me a little. And with this being my first pregnancy, I don't know what to expect. I have thought about calling my doctor, but I don't know if this warrants it. Is this normal?

Re: Movement has slowed!!

  • Mine used to move all day and he has slowed down to. I am 36 weeks and my Dr told me it was completely normal bc they are running out of room. But should still move between 5-7 times an hour.

  • Not every day will be the same. Babies go through growth spurts and will sometimes move less during those times. Also he may have shifted into a position that makes the movements less pronounced. Of course we are not doctors and if something feels off to you then it doesn't hurt to get their opinion.

  • I'm going through something similar. LO was moving around like crazy until 28 weeks. As soon as I started doing a kick count, LO changes it's mind about when to start moving around. If after tracking for a few days, I see that there is a change in timing, I'll let me dr know. But if I feel like the LO has drastically stopped moving, then for sure I'll call my dr. I would suggest the same.

Being with my LO rocks! DD born 6/13/14.

  • My LO goes quiet when she's having a growth spurt, which also coincides with the stretchy, crampy feeling you describe. Then she's back to normal after a couple of days. Sounds pretty normal.

  • Thank you all soo much for taking the time to give me your thoughts and experiences!! It has eased my mind a lot. I have my next doctors appointment Monday, so I figure I will monitor his movements like most of you suggest until then, unless something feels off. :)

At 30 weeks, my LO has more energy than me! Crazy karate kicks and chops all over the place. There are quiet times and days with few movements than BAM! Some days babies in womb take a break and sleep and other times babies are active. Count movements per hour during quiet rest time at home. If you are very concern with having little to no movement even after drinking orange juice than consult your OB....don't delay.
  • I remember having plenty of quiet days around 28w. It picks back up, but it's different. Less kicking and more flopping around, sort of like a sloshing feeling.

As long as you still feel movement, everything is fine. Ask your OB for what specifically you should be watching out for, but babies do have quiet days, believe me!

I hate the quiet days! I'm a worrier too and when she doesn't move as much I start worrying. The good thing is that she will usually get very active as soon as I lay down after eating. I also tend to poke her if I need reassurance, and that usually does the trick as well.
