Mommas to Boys

So we found out yesterday that I'm going to be the momma to a little baby boy!! I am extremely excited and happy about this, but honestly out of my element!! I have always nannied for little girls, been around little girls, and honestly "envisioned" having a girl ( i know, stupid me for trying to plan something unpredictable).  So please, mommas to boys ..heres your chance...give me all the great, amazing parts of having a little man in your life!!

  • My son is 11 and I couldn't imagine my world without him in it. I have 4 nieces ranging in age from 2-16 and boy, is there a crazy difference!! Girls are way more needy than boys. My nieces need to discuss and debate EVERYTHING from clothes to shoes to food. My son on the other hand is much more laid back. He is completely fine with whatever you put in front of him to eat, drink or wear. My son is really into sports now, which is a ton of fun to watch and be a part of. As a kid I was way too girly girl to do anything sport related aside from gymnastics. We are kind of hoping for a girl this time around just to change things up a bit, but i will admit I am a little intimidated at the thought of having a little girl...they kinda freak me out! LOL! You are in for a fun ride with your little man. Congrats :D
  • I'm expecting my third boy. I wouldn't trade it for all the pink in the world. There is nothing like the way a little boy loves his momma! They are SO energetic and curious and never stop moving, thinking, jumping, etc. It is so much fun to have little boys!

I also always pictured girls. I have three younger sisters and just saw myself having daughters of my own someday. I have two little boys and can no longer imagine anything different. It is the best! Little boys really, really love their mommas. (I'm sure little girls do too!) My boys are so curious and full of joy and energy. You will love having a son!

  • Thanks guys!! I knew I could count on you guys to give me all the pluses!! I wouldn't say I was disappointed when I found out- more just a surprise to get used to for a second! The more I get used to the idea of having a little man the more I can't wait for my little buddy to get here!! And its so great to hear how much they love their mommas, I can't wait for that connection!! Plus lets be honest, playing in the mud can be pretty fun too!!
  • I agree @Grace0609‌ you can't determine personality based on sex... That being said, my boy is the biggest mama's boy ever!! He asks me for hugs and kisses all day long and tells me how much he loves me almost every hour! :x So excited to have another one!!
  • I felt the same exact way when I found out I was expecting DS1 - and again with DS2. I can honestly say now that having boys is SO amazing. I'm sure girls are great, but I have no frame of reference on mothering a girl at this point. Boys are so fun! Each of mine is different, but the things that are the same are at they are SO sweet and caring to me, my heart totally melts when they say they love me and initiate hugs and kisses. They both have SO MUCH energy and are constantly on the go... they encourage me to get outside more, to see the fun in every situation - everything is an adventure with them. They are nuts for cars, trucks, pirates, anything with wheels or a siren, etc. They are such a mix of sweet gentleness and then totally wild energy. I never ever pictured myself as a mom of a boy, let alone two, but it's really been wonderful and I'd never trade them.

This post is totally making me have flashbacks to finding out my first was a boy. If I could say something to myself at that point, I would say that it's going to be so much better than you expect, and it will all work out how it is supposed to.

Wishing you the best with your boy, you are going to love each other SO MUCH and have a ton of fun together.
  • I have two and can honestly say that I won't be disappointed if this little one turns out to be another little brother.

I love watching them communicate in only sounds. Grunts, groans, sirens explosions and they know exactly what is happening during the conversation.

lThey certainly find the adventure in everything.

They are so sweet, I wonder often how adult men become so damaged and I try and protect it fiercely.

They are crazy!!! Both could climb before they could walk. Tarzan and the curtains happened.

But they love hugs and kisses and yakking my ear off about all their deepest thoughts and ideas.

My eldest cares for everyone. He makes sure our garden snails (pests) have fresh green leaves and makes sure the worms are back in the dirt after it rains.

Boys are special for sure, and for now they're all I know. And every Halloween I get to be the only princess in my houses ha! ( im not a girly girl at all!) so there's that!

This right here got me a little teary. I want to raise a man that is as sweet, caring, and open to the world as my little boy is right now.
  • Make sure once you undo the straps on the sides of the diaper and air hits him that you quickly re-cover him. They'll pee all over the place otherwise. My son is such a sweet mommas boy and the things his imagination comes up with has us rolling with laughter.
  • Okay, I needed this thread. I have been struggling lately with wanting a girl so badly and knowing that I will be disappointed if this baby (our last) is a boy. I feel insanely guilty over it, but this thread made me realize how much I am going to love having just boys (if that's what's in store for me).
to be honest with you, i was really hesitant about posting this, because I didn't want to get flamed by people thinking I wouldn't appreciate a boy, or being crazy for wanting a girl, etc...so thanks for saying that it helped you, because I just wanted someone to remind me of all the wonderful things in store!!!
  • I am the mother of two boys 9 and 2 and love every single minute of it!!! I came from a household of 6 girls and no brothers...so when I found out I was having a boy I was a little sad! Omg.. Was I wrong! They truly are special and love their mommies AND daddies!!! I feel so blessed to be the mother of my boys!! Here's a pic of the special men in my life!! Congrats!
  • A little late to the discussion but I agree with every post.  I at first thought I was done, I got my boy.  I am honestly scared of having a girl.  I feel like I will be so bad a fashion, girl stuff.  So I am secretly hoping for another boy.

My DS is so much fun, he is a total boy, but as everyone said they love their mommas.  My DS walked past three family members this morning and came to me because he hit his leg.  I love it.

  • My first was a girl so when I had my boy I was like wtf am I gonna do with a boy? Well he kinda stole my heart! Boys are made for Mama's!!!

@SpoofLeJones: You know how I feel about wanting a girl.  I am totally preparing for a 3rd boy though and I'm really feeling ok with it.  DS1 knows how to drive me INSANE, but he still cracks me up.  And when he tells me he loves, my just heart melts.  DS2 has been such a blessing to our family.  I wouldn't trade him for any girl in the world.  He is the sweetest little boy I've ever met.  He's so chill, low key and just easy.  And he's hilarious.  He is MY boy.  DS1 is a daddy's boy all the way.

I watch some of my friend's daughters and I'm amazed at how early the drama starts. I want a girl b/c I have such a close relationship with my mom and it makes me sad to know that I may never have that.  I also know I was a total BITCH when I was a teenager and made her life a living hell.  And that lasted for several years.  But I'm willing to go through all of that to have the adult relationship with a daughter.  Like I said though, I'm prepared to be a mama to all boys and they truly are great.  I do know that I'll feel some disappointment, but that's why we're finding out at the a/s rather than being team green.  Just being honest. :)

@cmumama Sounds totally normal to me.  That's why I *needed* to find out at 10 weeks w/ the MaterniT21 test.  I am SO incredibly glad I did.  I needed that time.

I'm glad I'm not alone. Thanks!!

  • I have 2 sweet boys and another on the way. We LOVE having boys for so many reasons. They definitely are less complicated to change but do try to get a good system down or you will get peed on. DS2 actually peed in his own face when his was teeny. I felt so bad! I wasn't prepared for how active they are now (2 & 4) but love that they can't wait to run around outside. It's true that my boys adore me but they can't wait to be with their daddy. I just love that! I suppose I'm biased but boys are pretty great!

  • I was the same! I only have sisters and just was never around boys! And I have two now lol! I thought I'd always long for a girl next; but I secretly hope this one is a boy again! It's fun being creative to dress them cute (it's easy to grab anything pink off a rack, I consider it a creative challenge to put together adorable outfits for my boys), they both will nap in my bed with me and the snuggles are priceless! They love outside. No one calls them "divas" (I hate that term and will flip if I have a girl someday and someone calls her that). I don't know how to explain it; I just love my boys!!
  • I must have been lucky. I think in 2 boys I've had maybe 2 peepee in the air episodes during diaper changes. And its only baby pee no biggie really! It's pretty easy to predict and contain. Wait till you have an explosive breast milk poop incident. You'll only have one and you'll figure our how to never do it again lol!
And surprisingly both my boys more or less potty trained themselves at just a little over 2. I let them go pants free a lot and that seemed to do it. But both were self motivated I honestly feel like I had nothing to do with it. I thought for sure i was gonna be the mom struggling with a 5 year old who didnt pottu train.
They are the kind of kids that things have to be their idea.

@SpoofLeJones You are not the only one who felt that way. I am in the same boat.   I needed this thread too!  I have been secretly hoping for a girl too.  Now reading this thread, I kind of want a boy now.

For the record, we are Team Green so we won't know until the baby is here!

  • Totally agree potty training my boys was a cinch and done by the time they were two. It's also so much easier taking them potty in public places...no lids and can do it anywhere. ;)

This.  E is such a sweet, kind, loving and sensitive little boy.  It is my hope that he always keeps those traits.  It makes me sad to think older boys/men stop displaying those traits.
Also, I am making it my mission to raise the best boyfriend/husband I can.  Luckily, he had a great role model Dad, but I want him to see me working extra long crazy hours and DH cooking dinner or cleaning laundry.  (this isn't necessarily related to just boys, I'd want my daughter to see these things too)

  • Boy clothes are cute, but girl clothes are REALLY cute. I think it has saved me money having a boy in that regard!

  • I love everything about this post too.  I am so happy to have a little boy and another one on the way.  Mine loves the outdoors and one of my favorite things is how he says "ahhh" every time he's giving hugs.  He is such a cute little momma's boy with the perfect amount of orneriness to make things fun.
