""Linkedin drama" on cnn...thoughts?

Thoughts? I totally agree with the last statement in this article, just because you can doesn't mean you should....and the overall sentiment of this that both ppl are in the wrong. I don't understand why ppl think it is ok to just blast people publicly like that but am in no way condoning the original message that the person went, esp given her job and profession., very strange to be so condescending and nasty to a total stranger on a website... Both were wrong IMO. The other thing I wonder is if there was something in the original connection request that was sent that initiated her reaction vs just a straight stranger request, which I would think this woman probably gets all the time, but who knows I guess... https://us.cnn.com/2014/03/01/opinion/drexler-linkedin-exchange/?iref=obnetwork

  • I kind of feel bad for both of these women. They both acted rudely. Not professional at all.

  • I agree with K3am - both of them committed career suicide.  While it might be easy and tempting to lash out and/or lash back, this amounted to a public temper tantrum on both sides and was a dumb move for both participants.

  • I think this is a big to-do about nothing.  Blazek should've just declined her and moved on instead of sending a nasty message to an inexperienced graduate.  Mekota should've kept her mouth shut instead of tattle-telling to the whole world about how someone was mean to her.  So unprofessional on both counts.

I don't know that I agree it is a big to do about nothing...I think it is very reflective of the overall incivility in our culture, especially when it comes to digital communications...it is shocking when people do this with their real names and professions on the line but it is almost like people forget they are not anonymous behind that computer screen bc such interactions seem to be commonplace in others online settings...I am often rather shocked at comments posted on news items and whatnot with people's real names visible as well(not saying anonymity makes it ok to be obnoxious either)...I dunno, I think it reflects a greater issue and not just one isolated duo.

Yes, I totally agree that there is an incivility issue when it comes to technology.  When I said it was a big to-do about nothing I'm not talking about the fact that people are addressing the issue, I meant that the actual altercation could have (and should have) been avoided entirely in the first place if both parties had used some professional judgment.  There's just no reason to act like this.  All of it was completely uncalled for.

  • Ahhhh got it :) and yes, totally unnecessary for it to have ever been an issue.
