So latch has been good, cluster fed right away then evened out to 15-30 minutes each side with some sleeping. Then ate 1 1-/2 hours, slept 4.5 now is not acting real interested. Pretty hard to get her to wake up, stay latched and feed longer 5-10 minutes, is this normal?

  • Yup! She's had a busy couple days, she'd tuckered out! At this point it's adviseable to wake her to eat. And lots of skin to skim when your not catching up on sleep. The skin to skin may stimulate her to eat.

  • I hate to make you nervous but are there signs of jaundice? That can sneak up quickly if babies aren't getting fluids and calories very often. Either way, a newborn needs fuel to have the energy to keep waking up and feeding. You should be feeding LO every 2-3 hours at first, even if it means waking them.

I remember it being hard to keep her awake. It helped to change her diaper, tickle her feet, etc. I stripped her down to just a diaper to feed quite often.
This. It was SO hard to keep my LO awake when she was a newborn. She'd latch and suck for a very short time before knocking out. PP have great advice. My doc said to wake every 3 hrs to feed if the baby does't wake up on his/her own. LO always hated that but I'd strip her down and tickle her feet, which usually worked.
