1st Trimester

Spotting/Cramping at 5 weeks

Hi everyone! I am newly back to the boards and 9 weeks pregnant with baby#2! (I have no idea what my ticker will say when this pops up lol).

My best friend has been ttc for 3 years now and just got a positive pregnancy test this week!  I am so happy for them, but she calls me today to say she has been spotting and cramping for the past few days and asked to be seen by the doctor today (she hasn't had a first apt yet bc she's still so early).  My heart breaks for her! I am praying nothing is wrong! But what can the doctor tell today? She is so early will they be able to tell anything? Anyone with insight on this?  She is so scared and confused, I am hoping all goes well.

Re: Spotting/Cramping at 5 weeks

  • It could be implanting spotting/cramps.

  • That was my first thought too. She is definitely getting worried.  I'm not sure what they can tell her today though, but hopefully they have some answers for her.
  • She had blood drawn yesterday, so I guess they wont be able to do it again today -too soon:(

  • theresat858 - You were here 2 years ago during my first pregnancy! My first lo was born on 5/27/12! Good to see you again, hope things are going well in your second pregnancy!
  • Had bleeding from very beginning. Typically spotting with a few heavier bleeds. They had me come in and took blood work right away. Had me draws 2 days in a row to see changes in HCG. They also had me return at 6 weeks for an u/s. Mine was a SCH which is finally (10.5 weeks in) seeming to resolve based on lack of bleeding. I wish your friend the best. She just needs to take it very easy and remain positive (I know it seems really hard but is very helpful).
