First time posting...ectopic?

Hey everyone,

Never posted before, but I thought I could use your girls' experienced opinions.

My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for five years, two with fertility-assistance (clomid, femara, follistim, etc) and this cycle, was the first time it actually worked! We were ecstatic when we found out that I was 3w6d  pregnant on Saturday. My b-HCG at that time was 73. My reproductive endocrinologist repeated it at 4w1d and it was 170. Great right? Except...I started having pretty bad pain on my left side and they did an ultrasound to make sure there were no signs of ectopic. They saw a large left ovary (the one that had ovulated) with some 'fluid' around it which they told me was likely normal. They saw a good corpus luteum, no gestational sac (said it was way too early, and told me my pain was likely from my big ovary being extremely superficial and close to my skin, but they couldn't rule out ectopic. 

I repeated my b-HCG today (4w3d) and they said it was 260...not high enough (doubling would have been 340). I'm devastated. Seriously heartbroken.

They're telling me that it's likely an ectopic and that they want me to come back on Saturday (4w6d) for an ultrasound and repeat beta. 

I'm asking for your experience...have you had a beta not doubling + pain (which has gotten significantly better since Sunday) and had it not be ectopic? Should I not give up hope yet? I just spent the last hour bawling my eyes out because we wanted this baby so bad.

Any input? Thank you in advance!

9/20/14:  Frozen Embryo Transfer --> BFP--> EDD 6/6/15 --> MC at 5w3d  
10/16/14: Frozen Embryo Transfer --> BFN
2/6/15: Frozen Embryo Transfer --> BFP --> MC at 5w4d
3/20/16: PGS-tested Frozen Embryo Transfer --> BFP, Living Child born 12/1/15
6/6/17: Fresh IVF Cycle --> Severe OHSS, 5 PGS-tested embryos frozen
2/23/18: PGS-tested FET --> BFN
3/30/18: Cancelled cycle due to lining 4.2mm
6/21/18: PGS-tested FET --> BFN

    I had an ectopic and they weren't able to see anything in my tubes until about 8 weeks. So I am surprised they are speculating ectopic already. There could be other reasons for your betas not doubling. I started having some bleeding around 6 weeks, which led to beta tests and transvag ultrasounds. Took until 8 weeks for them to see the embryo in my tube.

    I know of people who had betas not double initially and then result in healthy pregnancies, so I wouldn't give up hope yet. Keep asking for ultrasounds and beta draws until they see the embryo in your tube. If you get bleeding or very bad pain, go to your ER immediately. Good luck!

    Thank you girls for your advice / support!

    Have another beta tomorrow and ultrasound (I think it would be way too early to see anything, but RE wants it)...so hoping and praying for it to have doubled...

    I had an ectopic and went to the ER at 7w3d and they saw a mass in my right tube. My numbers weren't doubling and I was having severe pain and bleeding. If you are having an ectopic, you will have really bad pain and the bleeding will get more severe. I had surgery to remove mine and I was thankful to have my tube saved. 

    Don't give up hope if you are in fact having an ectopic. I had the ectopic and then had a miscarriage. Few months later got pregnant and now I have a 19-month old. I always felt like I was a failure, but stay strong and know that it will happen when it's supposed to happen. @MSU_Girl1202
