Pregnant after 35

Elevated afp and normal ultrasound freaking out

Took a target sono and it came back normal. My afp was 3.0. My genetic dr said no need for amniocentesis. However I'm a first time mom and can't stop worrying about my baby ever since that call. I'm 19w 5 days. I don't feel any movement. My ob had called me with the results one evening and it really freaked me out. I was able to get a next day appt with the genetic dr. Anyone go through this? Please I just need some feed back or encouragement. I cried so much my eyes are puffy. I'm 36 with my first pregnancy.

  • Ts and Ps for you during this time.  I did not have a high reading so no experience, glad you are seeing a genetic counselor- that is where I would turn for more information.  I hope you get reassuring information.

  • So far everything looks fine. They did a level 2 sono and went through it with a fine tooth comb. They couldn't find anything. Dr said my chances are 1:150. Which is less than 1% so not to worry. He can't guarantee no one a perfectly healthy baby so enjoy my pregnancy. Because if there is and abnormalities present it's minor.
