Working mom, first week fail

So, how are all you ladies doing being back at work? I personally am sucking at it! Got home today fed the baby, put him down immediately passed out for 2 hours. Woke up , moved to living room floor passed out for another 2 hours. Woke up, pumped, washed pump stuff for work, bumping/venting, headed to bed no shower or dinner. :(

Re: Working mom, first week fail

  • Wow, you're lucky LO will let you nap like that! I struggle the most with getting enough sleep. DH & I work opposite schedules, so it's always just me with the baby at night, & she only takes one small nap. Pretty much from the moment I get home I feed her, eat some dinner, wash & prepare bottles, pack my lunch for the next day, then finally get her down to bed. It sucks having to do that on my own every night. :(. Then I have to get up an hour earlier than I used to so I can feed her & get her back down to bed before I go.

Oh yeah & showering is a special thing these days. I get one 2-3 times a week, when DH is off or if I can sneak one in during her tiny nap. :(

  • Yup. I hear you. DH and I are exhausted. I often wonder what we are doing wrong that we both have to work 40+ hours a week just to make ends meet. Its not like we have an extravagant lifestyle (far from it!)

DH and I have opposite schedules also, so we have about 3-4 hours a day when we are both home, and all of it is spent with one of us watching LO so the other can eat/shower/wash dishes and bottles. I wish I could be a SAHM so much. :(
  • I hear you! I have been back for 7 weeks now and feel like I am the conductor of the crazy train. my dh and I both work 40-50hr work weeks plus he goes to school in the evenings so Its just me and the kids 4 our the 5 nights of the week and all day Saturday because DH works. My lo is pretty much sttn, but I'm still only getting about 4-5 hrs a night because I'm trying to stay up on all the cleaning/laundry. I hate having to spend my days off playing catch up, and when my kids are awake i want to be with them so I stay up late or wake up early to do house chores and prep dinner so that I can quickly get it ready when we get home. I am pretty much a zombie and I hate this new norm. I really like my job, I even used to love it before I had kids, but now its just so draining. I would quit my today if we could swing it financially, but with DH in school, I am the bread winner right now :-(

  • I'm exhausted but it's Hubby\wife time that suffers. We both try to be as engaged as possible with the kids for the few hours we get with them and then crash when they go to bed. Are you taking your prenatal vitamin still? That seems to help me a bit (and her pedi recommends it while I'm nursing anyway). Well, that and caffeine!

  • Yeah, my DH works nights so some nights it's all me. So stressful! I'm very lucky how much my LO sleeps but I'm just do tired by the time he's down I can't function!
  • I can't believe you get that much nap time. Dd is needy when I get home til bedtime. I never get a nap.

But I am right there with you. I cant wait til I can SAH!

My (almost) 2 year old is the same way. from the time we get home til the time he goes to bed he wants mommy's attention and snuggles and for me to play with him. Alot of times, I put LO in the carrier and wear him.

  • I would pay good money for a 2 hour nap.

Really though, you will find your groove. The first few weeks of being back to work were all about trial runs. I would try doing things this way for a week then reevaluate and try something knew. You eventually work out the kinks and feel like a human again, one that gets showers and dinner :)

  • I am not doing very well.  Lots of tears.  I am planning on staying home at some point.
