What did you think? I am inclined to feel sorry for the mom...maybe cutting her off could have been a compromise over calling the police. Curious to hear your thoughts.

I did see this and is bs she got thrown in jail, especially without even giving her a breathalizer. I was told by my doctor to start my beer while I was feeding (because as we know it increases milk production) and it would be out of your system before the baby needed to feed again. I was also told if you do not feel different from the alcohol there is not enough alcohol in your system to be passed to the baby. The mom should not have gone to jail but it sucks because people want to so the right thing in protecting children. Shame on the cops who arrested her, not the wiatress.

I know I was told a beer could help production but I never drank out in public and nursed. To me that just looks irresponsible. Like women who choose to drink while pregnant. I guess it's none of my business if you have a small glass of wine at home occasionally but damn straight id judge you out in public drinking while pregnant.

Ive heard the same thing that its better to have one while starting to feed because it wont be in your system yet vs waiting an hour or so and then feeding.

If I ever decided to have more than one drink ever I always just pumped and dumped.

I think it's ridiculous and over the top. The woman wasn't even her waitress so she doesn't know who was ordering what and drinking. Just because there are glasses in front of someone, doesn't mean they all belong to that person. I think that waitress went a little over board.

It's ridiculous. Also the DR in the article who was like "just give the baby formula" made me twitchy. I have had alcohol I public while nursing and while
pregnant.

Edit I want to add that everything I say here is as far as I have heard, read and been told. I am no expert.

It is an ingredient in beer that would help milk production but the alcohol in beer can hurt it.
If people want to increase their milk production there are much better, reliable ways to do it.

Alcohol is not a good choice to up production. It is a fine choice if you just want a glass of beer or wine or whatever. All that being said I am not anti-drinking while breastfeeding. Drink responsibly and enjoy.

The only reason I know of to pump and dump while is for comfort and to keep up supply. Once the alcohol leaves your system the milk is fine.

Edit I think it was wrong to send that woman to jail. The waitress might have the right intentions but what happened was just so wrong.

Another thing i thought of was who was going to drive home if everyone had been drinking? I'm not sure about Arkansas but my state has a zero tolerance for a driver with a child in the car. Doesn't matter if you're under the legal limit, but any alcohol level over 0.0 is a crime if children are in the car.

I do feel bad for the mom and I also see the waitress's intentions but it is hard to pick a side without more details. I think the mother should have nursed before drinking. And I would have been pissed at the cops if me going to jail without my baby resulted in mastitis or worse. I bet her going to jail was not a quick process. And where she is a SAHM she may not have a pump and no freezer stash so how would have the baby eaten while she was in jail.

I think I would have demanded a breathalyzer too! But then I would never be drinking alcohol and then nursing my baby or simultaneously drinking and nursing. I have also read that it is the yeast in beer that will help production but the alcohol inhibits production.

Not sure why this has my panties in a twist, but to be quite frank I find it fucking ridiculous that this waitress did what she did.

It would be different if the woman was obviously intoxicated.
