GTKY: What Do You Wish For? (First-World Pregnancy Problems)

It's not what you think.

Everyone wishes for a healthy baby and an easy delivery. Not that.

What do you lay in bed and wish for that is completely a non-important issue in the grand scheme of things?

This morning at 6am, I laid in bed and dreamed I could take a normal-sized human poop more than once a week.

For the record, I gave up and got some Colace. I didn't want to go that route, but I eat TONS of fiber, I run 30 miles a week, and nothin's movin'. I'm miserable.

  • I wish DH loved Disneyland as much as DS and I do, so we could take a yearly trip there.

Sadly, he doesn't, and we were just there last year so this years trip is supposed to be "non-Disney" related.  That gives me the sads.

We have had a rough couple of years (multiple losses, IF), and the magic of DL always uplifts me and renews my hope.

Real question: When do you go?

I haven't been there since I was 9 and my husband's never been there. We will want to take the kids when they are old enough to enjoy it (probably not until they are over 6 or 7, because I went when I was 3 and it was a waste--I hardly remember the 9-year-old trip).

But, then, I think about how crowded and how long the lines are. Is there a time of year that it's bearable? I REALLY hate crowds and lines. I know no one LIKES them, but I get really miserable.

Actually, sometimes I lay in bed at night and get upset because I have trouble sleeping sometimes, and this is my first baby. I wish I could enjoy the sleep while I can get it. This is hopefully not our last baby either, so I don't know HOW you 2nd- or 3rd-time moms do it. Are you just zombies?

    I'm terrified.

  • @Maggie6424 I haven't had ice cream in SO LONG. Now I want it. I got my annual Free Ice Cream from Coldstone, and it was during the middle of the Polar Vortex From Hell so I didn't go and now it's expired. :\

@msturgeon11 Are you almost through the 1st trimester? Here's hoping you feel more like yourself soon...

  • @SPurp13‌ we just got back from our honeymoon there. We went Nov 2-9th. It was "crowded" but absolutely nothing compared to high traffic times of year. Normal wait time for a ride was 20 minutes or so. From the looks of how long the lines COULD be, we went at the perfect time of year. Plus they're already decorated for Christmas! :)

  • @SPurp13‌ I am.11 wks 3 days. FX it gets better after 1st tri this time although w DS was sick entire preg so there is that fear. Thank you!!!!!!
  • I wish for sleep. And for fresh-baked chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches...they can be delivered to me in bed.

I also wish to use the restroom and shower uninterrupted: this morning while I was shaving my legs, I had left DS (2.5yo) in the bedroom playing trains and watching Daniel Tiger on my computer. I suddenly heard a scream and crying and called "DS, what's wrong? Come see mommy.", but the crying got louder. I jumped out of the shower, shaving cream going everywhere, and ran to the bedroom to find him sitting with his finger stuck in the bottom drawer of my dresser. :-/

Sat him crying on the toilet and wrapped his hand in a cold washcloth while I quickly rinsed off so that I could attend to him. I have one leg 3/4 of the way shaven and one unshaven leg. DS' finger is just fine.

  • @SPurp13‌ Coldstone sounds like the most amazing thing ever right now. Maybe sometime over the weekend I can drag myself there. Couldne the prob not enough ice cream in my diet!!! :-)
  • @Spurp13 - We have been at all different times of year.  The slower times of year are between holidays, when the kids are still in school.  It is definitely less busy then, but sometimes less shows and things are on as well.

I love it when it's busy!  With proper planning (I'm type A) it doesn't really matter.  I'm the type of person that HATES crowds.  Malls at Christmas drive me nuts, but for some reason Disneyland doesn't bother me.  It's organized busy-ness if that makes sense?  We've been when it's 'at capacity' too, so that's as busy as it gets.

We recently went in the Halloween season so DS could Trick or Treat.  He loves Jack Skellington and anything Halloween related, and it was the best time.  We took him when he was 3, 5 and 6.  He doesn't remember the trip when he was 3, but we don't mind.  It was magical to him in a way we'll never forget :-)  Waiting until the kids are a bit older is a good idea though, if you're only planning on making the one trip.  With planning and research you can avoid the super long waits.  We don't wait in lines any longer than 30 mins now.

  • @SPurp13 - We are like zombies but somehow you just adjust and learn to do it. It does get better when LOs sleep through the night for the most part.

@Emerald27 - That is the exact reason why I go to the gym every single morning during the week. Not so much that I want to work out everyday, but I need a shower everyday and I can do that while the daycare there watches DS.

@SPurp13 I feel like a zombie lately lol. My oldest son is at school from 8-3. My youngest son has all that time to nap (so I can nap too) but he seriously waits til about 2:30 so that I have to make him mad and wake him up then he gets to sleep in the car and by the time we get home he's wide awake. So I'm up by about 7:20 every morning and very rarely get a nap. I'm dreading what it will be like trying to do this with a newborn keeping me up half the night, then getting up to take my oldest son to school and have to stay up all day because of my youngest son. Then I will definitely be a zombie.

I was exhausted for a few weeks in the beginning of the pregnancy but I just went to bed when DS did at like 8pm! DS has been STTN for a long, long time and it's awesome. I get plenty of sleep myself so I haven't been a zombie since the newborn days.
You're giving me hope...the plan is to have these kids pretty close together if we can (I know you can't always plan that)...and the idea of having a 1-year-old and being pregnant again is daunting, but it's on the fringe of my imagination.

  • I have most of the same wishes. But I think will steal @Emerald27 wish about chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches in bed. That sounds so good.   Almost every day I wish for chocolate and wish my IVF doctor wasn't so strict about caffeine. But I know her method works so I'm just trying to suck it up until after the babies are born.

  • I wish we could find a house we like. Partially so we can move before I'm huge but more because trudging through showings every other night has gotten exhausting.

Or I guess I'd take a million bucks so finding a house I love and can afford is easier ;)

  • My wish is for decent maternity leave. Having to save up all my sick and vacation time so that I can afford to give birth sucks, especially considering that I've used most of my PTO over the past two years to take care of my mom and husband after their hospitalizations and surgeries. I'm not looking forward to having to rush back to work and leave the baby at home with my husband (he gets to work part-time from home) while I pump in the car or in a conference room with paper-thin walls. And the only way I'm going to get any extra time off is either if some previously-unheard-of-spinster-great-aunt dies, leaving me her vast fortune, or if I have some nasty complications that trigger my short-term disability insurance, which I think only covers about a third of my salary.

First time around, I'd be side eying you for saying this-but really I totally get this now. Amazing how different pregnancies can be. Wih DS, I ate all.the.time. This time I struggle with it.

  • @savagek7‌ @AmandaJean12‌ I feel the same way! I just want a house already and I'm sick of being outbid. We just thought we found a great place and put in the first offer (over listing price) and the sellers aren't even going to consider it for a week because they want to see what else comes in. I have a feeling that means we are getting outbid again. Ugh. At this point I'm just hoping we can move somewhere before October.

I wish we didn't have to move in August.  My husband is completing a one-year internship right now and next year has a one-year postdoctoral fellowship in another state.  So, we are only here for a year and most likely will be living in the next place for only a year as well.  I feel settled here, I like our place and our neighborhood.  It would have been a good set up for a baby, too.  I know my husband will get a regular staff position after next year and we'll be buying a house within the next few years but I'm ready to be settled now.

I'm also getting sad we won't have any friends or family close to us when we have the baby/are dealing with life with a newborn.  Our families are very, very excited and I'm sure people will visit as much as they can, but it won't be the same as having anyone local.
