FF moms: Brand vs generic

My pedi said any formula would be fine, and even went so far to say that we shouldn't spend top dollar on the name brands as they are all regulated by the FDA and all pretty much the same. I noticed the difference in $$ today (~$10 less for store brand) and was curious if any of you had experience/reviews for the generics? i.e. Up&Up, RiteAid brand etc

Re: FF moms: Brand vs generic

  • I guess the only downside is that if you go store brand you gotta always stick with that store and are subject to their pricing. Also if you are ever in the situation where the store is out or you are traveling and the store you purchase from isn't in that state/town you may have an issue.

  • We have always used Up&Up brand for both DS and now for DR with no problems. Target will often have coupons on their website or on Cartwheel too.

  • I've used up and up Similac for my previous babies but not until they were older (4-5 mos). My only reason for waiting is that they prefer liquid early on when I'm also mostly BF and the generic is all powder. Never had any issues.

Thanks all! @megash113‌ thanks I found your post too! Sorry for not searching first, I had a meltdown in RiteAid over the cost of the Enfamil/Similac and needed to ask. Garrett is getting 90%+ formula, because tubular boobs, and the math I was doing in my head was staggering! ($30/4days x 30d/month = $225/month)  My numbers might have been off, but it was just soooo much more than we'd been planning, since I was supposed to be able to BF... Cue the waterworks again.

  • Our LO eats up and up at home, parents choice from Walmart at daycare and also breastmilk. He doesn't have any issues with any of it- and we pay a heck of a whole lot less!
  • i have heard  great things about sams and costco formulas.  we use kroger, since its the only generic Gerber we could find.

  • We used Kirkland (Costco) with DS from about 10.5-12 months. He was totally fine with it and it was soooo much cheaper.
