GTKY: Parenting Non-Negotiable

In general, I am a pretty chill person and parent. I don't get too worked up about much but I despise it when my three year old lies to me. She is a well behaved little girl, but I just can't allow her to lie to me. I totally lost my shit on her tonight because she lied to me tonight... twice. This is also something that I don't deal with well in my personal relationships (husband, exes, friends, family) anyway, so when my spitting image lies to me I can't take it. I just see that lying is the gateway drug to all negative behavior. This is my parenting non negotiable.

So what is the one thing that you just refuse to tolerate from your children?

I think mine is probably going to be snobbery -- I can't stand pretentious, entitled people (I grew up in a suburb that was FILLED with this type of behavior), who act like they are better than others, and I really hope to teach him that he needs to have the same grace, kindness, and respect towards everybody, whether they are a garbageman or a PhD.

I agree!! Cheating and stealing are RIGHT behind lying but you have to be dishonest to cheat and steal.

I'm the same lying is my trigger. I also can't take disrespect. My three year old overall is a great kid but she is going through a similar phase. Can't wait for this phase to pass.

I hope she will just be a decent person...there a lot of ass-holes out there and you know it's a result of how they were raised! (Obviously you can't be if you lie, cheat, bully etc)

OH - and any sort of bigotry / racism . That has absolutely no place in my world and especially not in my HOME.

Disrespect. Especially when it comes to grandparents. I was mortified on the few occasions my three year old was disrespectful to my dad. Nooo way, not going to be tolerated.
