High-Risk Pregnancy

Any other pregnant moms have Factor V?

I was diagnosed with Factor V, a blood clotting disorder, about 2 years ago after having a blood clot in my leg.  At 26 years old, it was definitely a shocking diagnosis.

I have to give myself an injection of Levothyroxine everyday for the next 9 months, plus 6 weeks post-delivery.

Anyone else going through this?

  • Yep several of us :) you can find most of them in the "looking for lovanox buddies" thread. I would link it but my phone is dumb!

  • Me! I hate the shots, but all for a good cause, right? FWIW, my MFM said if I wanted to switch to Coumadin postpartum I could, so you could always ask if thats an option.

  • I'm 8 weeks and this will be my second pregnancy on injections.  The first pregnancy I was bawling in the office at the thought of the injections.  The second pregnancy it was suggested that I just do injections 6 weeks post-partum.  I was thrilled!  I ended up losing my twins early in the pregnancy and since Factor V is higher risk for miscarriage in second and third trimesters I begged to be put on them for this pregnancy just as a precaution.

It's never easy to inject yourself but you will eventually get use to it.  When I was in the hospital after my delivery and they ordered my injections I actually asked to do my own.  I am terrible at taking blood and I was terrified of giving the injections to myself but once you get more comfortable and begin to feel in control of the situation it gets better.

    Good luck!
  • I, too, have Factor V. Definitely check out the "looking for Lovenox buddies" thread. Lots of good people there! Welcome and congrats :)
