LO's feet with Ergo infant insert

I can't seem to get LO comfy using the insert. Are his feet supposed to be tucked into the Ergo, directly by my belly button, as he's sitting in the insert? Or off to either side so they come out the sides of the Ergo? I've only been able to get him comfortable once and his feet popped out the sides, but I thought the whole point of the insert was to keep his legs from splaying out like it would without the insert. I also have issues with the belt riding up, so I wonder if I'm wearing it lower than I should. I follow the guide that says I should be able to kiss the top of LO's head. Help!

Re: LO's feet with Ergo infant insert

  • Is LO still small enough to actually need the insert ?

  • Yeah I tried scrapping the insert in case that was the issue and I didn't feel like the blanket was doing enough for him. Maybe I'll try again with it. Sadly I can't remember how I got it to work so well that one time but it's definitely not something I do easily. Looking forward to him being big enough that it just falls into place for both of us.
  • How big is he? LO is about 15 lbs and I think he's just gotten big enough for no inset or blanket in the last two weeks. Last time I wore it I had his legs out and he seemed more comfortable than when I tucked them.

  • 11lbs, 3 months tomorrow. Tall, but skinny.
  • I stopped using the insert after two tries because LO was really too tall and more comfy without it. Have you tried not using it?

  • I haven't because the instructions said he needed it. :-P
  • Here is a page I found helpful: https://m.ergobaby.com/ergobaby-faq?md=1

I like the idea (and hadn't thought of it before) of removing the "butt pillow" and just using that in the main carrier...

  • Thanks for that! I never looked close enough at the insert to realize it wasn't all stitched together and were actually separate pieces.
