Dog Food Junkie

My child. Sigh.

He was playing on the living room floor tonight like usual and I noticed him crawling toward the kitchen. I didn't think anything of it because I had seen one dog already leave so I assumed both were done eating so Noah wouldn't eat any dog food. I kept an ear on him and soon realized that there was another noise besides the clank of metal on the floor and I look over to see my corgi staring at me. She looks at Noah and back at me with a "Do something" look on her face. Noah had scattered her food all over the floor and was shoving pieces into his mouth (sharing is caring? He held some out to the dog). So I immediately get up and take the food out of his mouth and bring him back to the living room. He played with a toy for a couple seconds before trying to high tail it back to the kitchen. I went, picked him up, and plopped him back in front of his toys.

Now he plays with his plastic apple but watches me while he chews on it. Within a minute or two, he threw it and it rolled toward the kitchen. He goes over to it and picks it up, stares at me, and starts nomming on it again. When I'm about to turn my eyes back to what I was doing, I see him look into the kitchen, down at his apple, back at the kitchen, at me, and finally at his apple again.

And then he extends his arm out, grins at me, drops the apple and it rolls into the kitchen. And then goes after it as fast as he can. I could see those little wheels turning in his mind before he dropped the apple so I got to him before he could get to the dog's food again.

I might have my hands full as he gets older....

tldr; My kid is a sneaky, devious child who loves dog food.

Re: Dog Food Junkie

  • DD did that with cat food. The stuff is foul but the reaction is a payoff. ;)

  • My mom said they always had trouble keeping me out of the dog food so maybe it's genetic lol

  • Liam constantly darts to the dog food. He's obsessed. This stresses my high strung dog out to no end.

  • Our corgi is pretty laid back (read lazy) but she gets twitchy when he disrupts her. I think this stems from his history of trying to pull her butt fluff. Our other dog is more stressed out by him in this mobile stage so she just stays under our bed when they are inside and Noah is on the floor.

  • Yup, this is Gavin. We have caught him in the dog food a million times and usually he has some in each fist and we are fishing it out of his mouth at the same time. At least it's all natural...
  • DD is very interested in all things dog related. No tastings yet but it's really just a matter of time. She already prefers their toys to her own.
