Dear Autism commercial?

WTF? Why do you pray on my insecurity and anxiety?? Thanks assholes.

Re: Dear Autism commercial?

  • I just read online that the CDC now says kids diagnosed on the spectrum has increased to 1 in every 68 kids. I'm with you in regards to worrying about LO.

  • DD has ADHD and dyslexia, so I am so worried that DS will already have that to deal with and then between the new study and the damn commercial about avoiding eye contact? Ugh.

This might call for a check in.

Love tit for highlighted part, I'm so sorry about the other part. That has to be hard.

  • CDC study did say that they believe the increase is due to an increasing awareness of ASD as a primary driver rather than something else.

  • I've been reading about autism all day since I got a CNN notification on my phone about the new CDC stats. Now I come here and see this commercial! Geez! This terrifies me!

  • As scary as that commercial is, awareness is key to early intervention. Early intervention can do wonders for a child with autism.
  • Autism really scares me. DH and I were just talking about its possible link to autoimmune diseases, which scares me since DH has diabetes and celiacs.

While I do believe our environment/life styles are causing an increase in Autism,  kids today are also being diagnosed more frequently and being labelled somewhere on that spectrum more often, when they may not have been before (even a few years ago)......
We parents are so hyper sensitive now and watch our kids for any little sign they may be autistic.
The spectrum is also very broad.   (My girlfriend is dating a guy who is autistic......besides being a bit quirky, I had no idea - and my job is at an autism therapy centre lol.)
I've known a few people with babies who "don't make eye contact"  or "seem withdrawn" etc and in the end, they are all typical kids despite their parents fears.........I also can't tell you how many parents I know with kids who do have autism that say their babies were "normal" until X age.!

Guess what I'm trying to say is.....Try not to worry guys :)
