1st birthday Theme ideas

What Ideas does everyone have for their LO's first birthday theme? I have been visiting www.birthdayexpress.com a lot today looking at different ideas, I am stuck on the John Deere tractor one or cars. The website has awesome party packs and the one I like (a bit expensive) comes with party favors for other kids invited . However financially I have been considering just going to WalMart and dollar store to get decorations, I am not sure what I want to do yet. So what are some of your ideas because maybe hearing yours will help me decide.

Pinterest is awesome with birthday ideas and has alot of ways to diy decorations and stuff. My baby shower was alice in wonderland and I decided to do DD's first birthday theme from that..so it would be Madison in ONEderland.

  • I'm doing a derby themed birthday. But hell DSs b-day is that weekend & I live in Kentucky so it will be cheap. All the stores will have cakes for that, etc. Here's my idea.

    https://blog.hwtm.com/2013/04/preppy-playful-dapper-derby-first-birthday-party/

A side note the colors were my wedding colors.

I did a pumpkin patch theme for my ODS...so yep I am creative. I had tons of cool decor for it too. Hay bales, pumpkins, scarecrows, the whole thing since it was in the stores. I hit up the Dollar Tree & Party City. Seasonal stuff is my thing.

  • I really like Dr. Seuss but I am going to do that for something else. I think I am going to do A in Onederland's monster bash.

It will be a wonderland but with pink, purple, blue and green monsters as well. It might sound odd but it will be fun. I thought of an Alice in wonderland kind of thing but this will be more like a candy/chocolate willy wonka kind of wonderland. (Like a child's dream wonderland) And we will have monsters because she can be a little monster.
  • I am doing a cupcake theme.

  • Oh so cute guys!!! I was worried that doing a theme for a one year old might be to much I never know what is ethically correct anymore (I had one friend who had a baby just out of high school and moved three hours away and all my other friends are holdouts so I haven't been invited to a lot of baby related things.)

My husband races which is why I was thinking cars. However the Johnny Tractor 1st birthday package has huge eyes on everything and we are a big John deere family (our fence in front of our garage is green and yellow) I also saw on a few other sites a Lil' Rebel theme that was really cute. I am going out and about today and I am thinking about getting some ideas and maybe I can get certain things off the internet. I think Beau put up a card website on another thread I want to check out.

What do you guys think about Banners? Are you getting one?

Some of you mentioned pin interest I am not a member of that and I thought it was mostly an idea page, can you actually buy party pack off that page? (when I was planning my forest friends themed baby shower they always had cute things but it was just what other people had done and how to do....I am not overly crafty)

  • I am doing hungry caterpillar too. There is a lot of ideas on pinterest for that theme so I like that I don't have to think of many things myself. (I'm not that creative!) I've never done a themed party before so I'm a little nervous about executing everything I would like to do. But I'm excited!

  • Hey Ladies doing the mustache theme and Onederland (and I think one of you said onederland with monsters.) Try Oriental Trading I just received a magazine that is strictly about 1st birthdays. Unfortunately it isn't helping me decide though because I like the I dig being one the cowboy one and the pirate one (since DS likes Jake and the neverland pirates

  • We are doing Phineas and Ferb theme, since we named him after the cartoon (his middle name). I'm not doing much to incorporate it, just the plates/napkins and a Perry the Platypus shaped cake :)

  • We are having an elephant theme. There will be an elephant cake, elephants on the banners and elephants on his birthday shirt. I am doing animal crackers as the favors for the kids.

We are doing a woodland/fox theme because all of C's monthly photos were taken next to his fox. Im going to blow up all 12 and use them as a back drop. I don't want to over do the fox theme so I will just incorporate a lot of natural elements. Coincidentally, that was my shower theme also.

pnutg my shower was woodland animal theme and LO's bedroom set.....very hard to find a lot of things to go with that. I did see a whats the fox say themed set in my searches but it is more cutesy then weird if you try to google it. If there were a lot of things readily available I would to a forest friends type theme for sure.

  • I'm doing a super hero theme because my son is freakishly strong and we call him baby hulk! :)
  • We are doing a Southern Gentleman theme. It will be a lot of mustaches and bow ties too but everything will be super preppy. I'm having sweet tea/lemonade bar where you can jazz up your drink with flavors and alcohol for the adults, we are going to have southern foods like Carolina BBQ, fried chicken etc. his colors are royal blue, aqua and orange mainly because I went to oriental trading company and can get all those colors in really cheap table cloths, napkins etc and I already have some serving platters in those colors (thank you hand me down fiesta ware). Where I live everyone dresses up to go anywhere plus it may be the only time I can get R to wear seer sucker outfit with a bow tie with out throwing a fit or getting it dirty
  • I am doing an airplane theme for DS. I'll hang his monthly pics together with the caption How Time Flies. I got all of my ideas from Pinterest and Etsy. There is also an Etsy seller where I can print decorations for $25. Not too bad IMO.

  • I am doing Annabelle in Onederland. It is the Mad Hatter's tea party. I am really excited and will be crafting a lot of my own stuff.
  • So I have finally decided on a theme. I bought the cartoon "How to Train Your Dragon" the other day and DS sat and watch the whole movie and squealed whenever he saw toothless. He also tried to eat our popcorn. So A. we have decided if he can sit that while when dragon 2 comes out in june we will take him to theatres. and B. We are going to have a Toothless dragon/viking themed party!image

  • Well my elephant themed party has now changed to a circus themed party. Finding just elephants in the colors I wanted just wasn't working! Found adorable invites and decorations and can still have elephants involved!
  • I think we are doing a Dinosaur theme for the party

  • We're doing a sailor theme.  Pinterest has given me lots of cool ideas. His birthday is right after Memorial Day, so I think it'll be pretty easy to get lots of red, white and blue decorations.  I need to get through Easter, first!

  • D&S724  I wasn't really as worried about easter because I didn't figure DS would be interested in an egg hunt or a basket. What are your plans for easter?

  • @aintnoyuppiemom - I have two older kids, so I need to get movin' on their baskets.  (My littlest guy is easy - he won't be expecting much, lol!) We're going to my brother's house for dinner this year, so at least I have to make one part of the meal. :-)

  • D&S724 LOL sometimes I seem to forget not everyone on here is a FTM like me. Ya easter would take more effort with older LO's and having to help with a meal. Good luck with all of that. Your post the other day made me think about easter and I started looking up things to do for younger ones, I still think DS is a little young yet to enjoy to much but I posted about the Jelly beans thinking of you preparing for easter. Little kids plant jelly beans and then they "grow" into lolli-pops. super cute!
