DOC Band evaluation tomorrow UPDATED

I was hoping to avoid DS2 getting a flat spot.  I thought I was good about his head positioning.  But he has a flat spot on the back and possibly some bulging on the sides.  We go for an evaluation tomorrow afternoon.  Oh well.  It is what it is.  DS1 had one (see siggy pic of the day he got it at 5 months).  Just was hoping to avoid the added expense (not covered by our insurance) and a hassle for a few weeks since the clinic is an hour away and I will have to drive there once a week with both kids after work for a few weeks.  Its all worth it in the end though.  Nice round head, no worry of any impact to his optical nerve, or kids making fun of him for a funny shaped head.  Here's a pic for your time.image

  • He's adorable.

Daphne has some flat spots on the back of her head.  Our pedi said not to be concerned at this time.  She actually told me her daughter's was worse.  Basically she said they will improve as they move more and unless there is issues with symmetry on the face, etc. that it is not a concern until they get older.

Plus I have read a lot of studies which say they rush to using the helmets too quickly now and most of the babies would have the issue resolved without the need of a helmet.

Good luck and hopefully he won't need it.

Can you post these studies? I guess I would rather be proactive, rather than just stare at a flat spot that may or may not resolve.
I don't have the studies but my pedi said the same thing. Still nervously watching my LO's spot.
  • UPDATE: He has a a moderate (on the minor end) of plagiocephaly and needs a DOC Band. He also has torticollis so we need to do neck stretches at every diaper change. I had a feeling since he favors one side.
