AW: Just booked a St. Lucia vacation!

DH and I are going with my brother and sister-in-law for 6 nights in November to a Sandals resort.  We have never been on a trip like this, even before kids.  I am so excited I can barely contain myself!   I will miss the kids, but DH and I neeeeeeed this.

If you have been to an all-inclusive resort in the Carribean, tell me about your experience.

  • OMG I am sooo jealous! DH and I went to an AI in Jamaica last year and it was awesome! It's so relaxing, no kids, fancy dinners, laying on the beach. You will have the best time ever. Only recommendation I have is add an international package to your cell phone b/c the calls home to check on the kids are very expensive. Look into your options before you go.

  • I've only been to St. Martin in the carib and it wasn't AI. However, I've been there 3x and my aunt & uncle go every year for 2 weeks Love it there. You'll have a blast.

  • I don't post here much but saw your post and had to weigh in.  I have been to a number of all inclusives and actually have been to Sandals in St. Lucia - it was the first vacation my husband and I went on years ago when we were first dating and we had a FABULOUS time.  There are 3 Sandals on St. Lucia and you have privileges at all 3, so take advantage and go to another site for dinner one night!
Also, we did a few of the off site trips (they are additional cost) but far and away the best trip was a drive through the rainforest to a ziplining excursion.  So much fun!
Feel free to ask me any additional questions.

Yes, we are staying at the Halcyon which is in the middle so we definitely plan on visiting the other two.  The ziplining excursion sounds awesome!
  • Back in 2007, me and my husband went to St. Lucia for our honeymoon.  It was beautiful!  We stayed at a Sandals, the Grande St. Lucian.  Advice:  if you are prone to motion sickness, you may want to take something before leaving the airport if you plan on taking the Sandals shuttle from the airport to the resort.

The Grande St. Lucian was about a 90 minute drive from the airport. And the roads were narrow and curvy and not in the best shape. They also drive on the "wrong side".  Lots of ppl were car sick and we had to make several stops.

We really loved the whole Sandals experience.  All the excursions were fine, had no problems whatsoever.  The zipline was a lot of fun!  The botanical gardens were cool too. As I recall, there was a cool waterfall at the gardens! There is also a drive-in volcano (or something like that).  You park pretty close, and then walk a very short distance to see it.  Now I'll be honest, the sulphur really stinks!  Kinda like a rotten egg.  But it's really neat to see.

One of the excursions we did was an all-day tour of the island.  (I forget what exactly they called it.) Basically, you get your own shuttle and driver (no other tourists are with you), and you go all around the island.  The driver has a picnic lunch in the van.  On that day, we saw the Pitons, did the garden, the volcano, had a picnic lunch, and made various stops along the way for pictures, etc.  Our driver even stopped at a local bakery and picked us up some fresh bread.  I believe that particular trip also took us to the rum plant.

Sandals was awesome.  We loved the food...and just the relaxing vibe of the place.  The water was great, as was all the water toys.  We tried paddle boards and the big bicycle that you pedal in the water. (It was a lot harder than what it looked!)

    Enjoy the trip!
