@maryannespier and moms of long babies ($555555.99)

So I've searched through the past posts about convertible seats and maybe I missed this. While searching online for convertible seats I've seen a lot of reviews that say some seats are not good for tall babies and they grow out of them fast. Has this been the case for some of you? I mean I'm sure they haven't grown out of anything yet but if we're spending a good amount of money on a seat I'd like it to last awhile.

So what seats do you have for your lo and do you think it'll last with their length?

Re: @maryannespier and moms of long babies ($555555.99)

  • You want to look at the height of the shell. Brita, for example, has a short shell, so a baby wouldn't be able to use it for as long. Graco headwise/my size and the Chico next fit have some of the tallest shells available. Their is also an evenflo seat with a taller shell.
It isn't something you'll need to worry about now as far as them growing out of it. More so when they are 4 and not quite ready for a high back booster seat, but too tall for the convertible. We purchased the Graco seat so that we won't need to get another in a few years.

  • @redhead610 thanks for all the info! I'll look them up!

  • You may need to wait on the Graco seats now that I think about it. They recalled the buckle, so I think they took them off the market until they get all the new ones out. It is still a great seat (my size - not my ride, which is a different seat with a shorter shell).

    This page is very helpful:

ETA: We have the Foonf. I absolutely love it, and Lillian loves that she sits so high up and can see out.

  • I have britax marathon. Isaac is 31". He was 23" @ birth. It's working well for us.
  • I have the Diono Radian RXT which is good for tall babies. I love it. It's so narrow. It's wonderful.

  • We only bought one so far: the Peg. We had to consider space in the back of our Volt vs. him growing out of it. (We really really really wanted to keep our car). So far we love it, but we will see how long it lasts. Not sure what we will buy for DH's car. For now he's still using the infant seat there (also a Peg).

This one looks fantastic! High weight and length. I'm gonna see if I can get DH on board with this one!

  • We also have a britax marathon. It has the same length max RF and FF I think. I'll have to look at the manual. Honestly I didn't really think about him growing out of it early....but I should have!
It is 49", I just looked it up.
I didn't think about this either.  Darn.
  • We went with the maxi cosi pria 70. Oliver was 28 inches at 6 months. Prob a shrimp compared to some other babies LOL.
  • Based on Lucy's List, we're thinking the Chicco NextFit, based on both tall baby and not-so-big car. But we haven't taken the plunge yet, as we have another couple of inches before we *have* to switch.

I wanted the nextfit but it's not sold in Canada yet. Wah. Then I wanted the diono radian rxt but when we tried it in our car (ford escape) it didn't fit unless we used their wedge piece which would have had LO sitting in an uncomfortable and unsafe looking position. So we finally went with the britax pavilion. It isn't as tall but fits our car well. We also looked at the clek foonf but DH said he refused to buy a car seat that sounds like it is made by ikea. Even though it's not. Canadian made actually! :)
Woah, I thought it was Swedish? We tried that one out, it's heavy as shit. DH also thought it was Ikea-ish.
  • We have the Graco Mysize 70 and love it. LO was in the 98th percentile for height at the last checkup. We also didn't have an issue with the buckle since ours was manufactured after July.

  • Dh and I got the diono and love love love it!
  • We have dionos now. Took a year to convince DH to get me oldest (4 year old ds) one as he outgrew our other seat. We got a great sale so he agreed to buy a second since we would eventually need 3 seats. Loved it so much, he went and bought a 3rd two months later. We also have a Britax which we also loved, but it does take up more width.
