Babies that have all BM rarely take more than 4-5 oz at a time, so stick with the smaller bottles. If you're a SAHM you don't need many. If baby will be cared for elsewhere while you pump, I'd suggest having 8-10 so that you don't have to wash them every day and can just run the dishwasher every other.
I'm BF and my other two never took more than 4-5 oz at a time. I have three 4oz bottles (I can actually fit 5oz in them) and I'm also a SAHM. If for whatever reason baby needs more from a bottle I can always purchase larger bottles later.

Im a FTM and a SAHM so take this fwiw, but I have 7 bottles. 6 - 5oz (bought a pack of 3, and was given a pack of 3) and then one 8oz (was on the diaper cake at my shower. I dont plan on buying more as of right now.
We just used the Medela ones I could directly pump into. I think they hold 5oz. They worked fine all the way through. I would pump into the bottles directly Monday-Thursday then pump into storage bags on Friday and send frozen milk on Monday to rotate my stash. I think that's a pretty typical pattern.

I EBF and SAH and Dd also never took more than 4 or 5 oz at a time. I think we currently have 6 bottles.
Eta: but we could easily make due with 2-4. The only reason we have more is bc DD started refusing bottles at 3 mo so we were on a mission to TRY ALL THE BOTTLEZ.
I started with 3 bottles (dr browns but can pump into them) 4oz. I have a box with 2 more 4oz and 3 8oz, and a box of 8oz my SIL gave me, but those two boxes won't be opened until needed and hope I can exchange if not needed. I think to start, 3-6 4oz bottles (or 5oz) is fine if you plan on bfing and being home, you can go to the store later if needed!

I have like 15 I think. It's a mix of the small and the larger ones. I plan to switch to formula at 4-5 months after nursing for the first 4-5 months so, I will probably need more than if you're just nursing.
