The Dreaded Man Cold

It's happened. The man cold has struck my home. DH has been overly dramatic today with the moaning & groaning and letting me know every 5 minutes he "doesn't feel good". The best part is the 11 year old mini man of the house is running a fever too. Awesome. I'm trying to be super cool about it even though I don't feel so hot myself, but I'm just about ready to blow up the air mattress and camp out in the baby's room! I can't possibly be the only one with a cry baby husband...How do you ladies deal with the man cold in your house?

Re: The Dreaded Man Cold

  • My husband is sick as well and definitely whining a lot. He fully admits he's doing it too, Monday morning he was whining and said "I think it's obvious I have a man cold!". I let him though because his immune system is insane and this is the first time he has been sick since 2010. He's also a good sport about taking something so he'll feel a little better

  • Mine has it too. He stayed home from work yesterday. My mom was telling me to be careful not to get sick. I told her it's just a sore throat, even if I get it, I think the baby and I will be fine.

  • Deal? I contemplate slitting my wrists.
  • It's awful.....DH just got over being sick. He was useless. My favorite part was when he refused to go to the doctor. I finally said.....no doctor = no complaining. He went to the doctor. LOL. Then he was so pitiful, I sent him to the basement to "rest" since the baby was sick too and keeping him up. Poor baby. Now I'm sick.....do you think I'm getting the same sympathy? No! I am still doing dinner, bath, packing lunch, laying out clothes, and getting up in the middle of the night. So frustrating!

  • Ugh...my sympathies. DH gets the tough love treatment. "Suck it up" "Rub some dirt on it" "Really, are YOU growing a human?" And my absolute favorite... "OMG, shut the fuck up"
All said with love, of course ;-)

  • DH has had a tummy bug for 2 days. BLEH! I've been as helpful as I can, but seeing as I don't want me or DD to get sick he's been sequestered to the bedroom upstairs. He does make sure to get in plenty of "I don't feel good", "If I barf again I might die" type comments when I go check on him lol. BUT! He also has a new respect for nausea and morning sickness.

  • DH got his man cold when we were in Disney!! As if it isn't bad enough at home. But on vacation. Our girls had the exact same thing at the exact same time. And we're laughing and playing and in good moods. But he "couldn't function"!!! :|

    Hope they feel better soon.

  • UGH I hate the Man Cold.  My DH was sick with the flu, so cold, fever, and vomitting and all of that 2 weeks ago.

I try and be nice but I steer clear of him when he's like that.  I got him some water, some hot tea, some tissues and sent him up to bed for 2 days.  I didnt even mind taking the couch, I didnt want to get sick and didnt want to deal with it.  Id rather do everything around the house for those few days than have to see him moping around and complaining haha.

Worse part is my husband refuses to take anything and wont go to the dr, so like @jg1011 said, I pretty much tell him, that if he doesnt want to help himself then I cant do anything for him that I havent already done.

  • When DH has a cold it does wipe him out due to his immune system but lucky for me he takes Nyquil and goes to bed early, so I don't have to deal.  But I have to be asked ALL.THE.TIME to rub his back and his feet because they hurt.  Go to the darn chiro and foot dr if this is such and issue.  I don't mind occasionally but I get the feet put on my lap everytime we are on the couch watching TV.

  • My greatest sympathies to all of you ladies who are dealing with a "man cold" or otherwise sick partner right now. Having been there many a time I can relate to the annoyance of the whining and the poor me routine.

My DH went ahead and broke his toe playing soccer right after my OB put me on "light activity" for two weeks because of cramping and spotting. I had a hormone-laden meltdown at him. I realize accidents happen but he is a very aggressive player and I told him he has to be more careful during times when I need him to do more stuff for me. He didn't get where I was coming from at all.

  • When DH gets sick, I send him to our room. If you are too sick to function, you belong in bed. He does make it a point to come downstairs just to groan every once in a while as well. Just to reiterate that he is sick, dead, and dying.

When DH gets the man cold (or feels ill at all) he just really really really wants to be left alone to whine to himself. Which is great. That is as long as I go get him gatorade and chicken soup and make him tea a couple times a day. ;)

Okay--I had every intention of inserting a great man cold gif--but then I found this:

  • Yes!! DH just got over a cold a couple of weeks ago and it was homemade chicken noodle soup, me getting him meds, and making sure he was comfortable in bed, resting... Then I get his cold a week later and he can't be bothered to do anything! He insisted that he had to spend the day in the garage, I went to get my own meds, cook my own lunch (and of course his too), never get the same pampering-it's frustrating.

But then I just started calling him a child, and saying that I'll be taking care of 2 children when our DS comes... and he's been doing a bit more since then around the house. :)
