I don't know if that is how to spell heebee jeebees or if that is the best vocabulary word, but at 4 am it will do.
I was nursing LO, and have been awake for almost 2 hours so I was fully awake and with it. I heard my daughter come up the stairs and bump into the box at the foot of the bed. I whispered "shhhh". Get up to lay baby down-daughter isn't there. Son is still asleep. Put baby down, go down to check on daughter (who is not feeling well and was up before the baby) and she is sound asleep on the chair. My heart is racing a little. And dh is still gone. And I keep hearing those mysterious sounds.
Darn it. I got to get back to sleep, but now I am all creeped out. This reminds me of the time the battery candles turned themselves on in the middle of the night.
I'm invisible and safe in bed with my breath held and blankets pulled up, right?
I guess if I pull the blankets over my head the carbon dioxide will help me get to sleep and fool my brain into thinking I'm safe.

My friend was staying at her twin's house, and her twin has a 18 month old. Early one morning, the baby was crying, and my friend thought that her sister was sleeping through it on accident. Suddenly (she was in the room next to the baby's) she heard the nursery door open and someone say, "little boy, why are you crying?" The baby stopped crying and went back to sleep.
Later on, my friend asked her sister if she had gotten up. She said no. She said she heard some weird feedback over the monitor. It freaked them (and me!) out!!!

There were always footsteps going across the master bedroom at night when there was no one upstairs.
We had a VCR that would try to eject tapes even when there was nothing inside. It would open and shut it's door rapidly 10-15 times (and would start doing this even when turned off).
One night while my mom and sister were at Air Cadets I was home alone (my dad worked away and my brother was at university by then). The footsteps started up and started pacing through the bedroom - there were never more than three or four normally. I looked up at the ceiling and told it to cut it out because I was getting scared.
The footsteps stopped, but the VCR started doing its thing and the garage door opened spontaneously.
I checked the garage to see if it was my mom and sister coming home hut no one was there. I closed the garage door and then cowered on the couch with the TV turned up really loud until everyone got home.

When I was 7 or 8 one of my best friends family and my family rented a cottage in Maine together. My mom and my friends mom went up to Maine together before we stayed there to check out the cottage and sign paperwork, etc. On their ride up there they saw a road covered in blood and a dying moose on the side of the road. They got to the management company's office and the person they spoke to warned them that while this cottage was really nice, they had complaints from several people who claimed that it was haunted and the renters had actually left early. They claimed that the scary hauntings primarily happened to people without kids, but the ghost seemed to be very protective of children. The cottage was built in the late 1800's and a woman had died their giving birth. APPARENTLY (skeptic here) she died in the middle of winter and because the ground was frozen her and her child were buried in the dirt basement. When they checked out the house out it was nice but they do remember a really strong scent of perfume.
So fast forward a few weeks and I arrive with my family (parents and 2 older sisters) and my friend arrives with his parents and his younger brother. My parents had told my oldest sister about the ghost stories so my sisters ended up sleeping in the car. All I remember of our time there was having a great time with my friend. My parents remember hearing footsteps in the hallway and smelling perfume constantly. After the first night we all got up for breakfast and my friends mom went to go get my friend and his brother out of their room but it was locked (from the outside). Neither her or her husband had locked the room. Then the little brother (maybe 4 at the time) went up to his mom and said "thanks for singing me to sleep mom, I was having nightmares." Yeah...nobody had been singing to him that night.
